Got word two hours ago from my son, Daren Crespo the manager of the team. They won the game 2-1 in the 7th inning. Star and Starting pitcher Jack Maxie did not have his stuff today. He was replaced by backup pitcher Mackenzie Webb in the 4th inning who closed the opposing team down allowing the Northhampton team an opportunity to score the additional run they needed to win. Congratulations to the entire team and the coaches, and the parents who were there all week for the tournament. Next they go to Florida on August first for another tournament round.

All, took the trip north to watch the game. and there must have been some misunderstanding in the translation. Maxie DID have his stuff! The Northampton D let Maxey down in the 1st and he had to throw about 15 more pitches than he should have. He threw 5+ innings of 1 hit, 10 K ball and fought thru what was the worst game I had seen NHLL play so far this all-star season.
NHLL came thru late in the game on a squeeze bunt by Webb and a game winning RBI and a a 3 for 3 day by Wetzler. NHLL did not play their best but was able to win anyway. Exceptional Job Gents!!! Good luck on your trip to Florida.

You're right peninsuladad. I stand corrected. Your information is more up to date than what I originaly had. Congrats to Jack for a stellar performance, although he didn't finish the game, and congrats to Mackenzie Webb for coming and closing the other team down allowing our boys to have a chance to score the winning run. And congrats to Daren, the coaches and the team for a super performance at the state finals. Now, onward to Florida and more of the same.

Congratulations Northampton squad! It has been around 18 years since Northampton senior league has been to the regional tournament. I know this makes the Bethel coaching staff feel good that they have this type of talent coming to the program for the next couple of years.

So news about this team. It's great to see Northampton complete the year with a State title for a league that has supported District 7 for years. However I was disappointed to see some of it's players out in the front of the shipyard this morning trying to raise money. I would have assumed that with the lack of a titleist in quite some time that the outpouring of support (i.e.-money) would have been overwhelming. I guess that isn't the case for this group of young men trying to achieve a rare opportunity so few have or will ever experience. Thanks for support City of Hampton. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

The boys were not raising money for the team, they were raising money for their parents to get down to Florida.

Northampton loses first game of the South regional pool play to South Carolina 4-0.
They play Alabama on Saturday who lost today to North Carolina.

NHLL beats Alabama 3-2 in 10 innings.
They will play undefeated North Carolina on Sunday.
Although pool play tiebreakers are complicated, a win on Sunday significantly improves their chances of moving on.

Congrats to Northampton!
Just wondering, do you happen to know any of the stats, and who pitched yesterday and today. Who will pitch tomorrow?

Mac Webb started the game and pitched a great couple of innings before he was replaced by Alex Wetzler( in order to keep his pitch count down to keep him available) who finished with a great performance on the mound. Northampton's defense was stellar today. The winning run was brought in on a nice squeeze bunt by Jerail Jones, with Jack Maxey scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning!!!

NHLL beats North Carolina 7-2 !!!
They win their pool by the tiebreaker of defensive runs allowed and will play Tennessee (2-1) in one of the semi final games on Monday.
Undefeated Florida (3-0) will play North Carolina (2-1) in the other semi final.

First of all i neglected to mention that neil Friesz pitched 3 great innings of ball before being replaced by Alex Wetzler. who completed the last 5 innings of that 10 inning marathon. Sorry Neil!!
As for today's game Acie Elliot pitched a superb complete game as Northampton, beat undefeated North Carolina to win pool B, and go on to play Tennessee Monday morning in the first semi-final game of the day!!!

Theres no telling at this point. He may be held out just in case. We still have Deshong, Webb, and Friesz available for tomorrow, so there is a possibility.

Hmm, strange part on Crespo. But he did a really good job in districts with his players. He'll make the best decision. But I see that Maxey will be used if they need him to get an inning or so. Elliott isnt available for the championship game is he?
Best of luck to Northampton.
You guys did really well in Districts, and that continued on to state, and let it continue on!

Northampton won today 9-4. Moving on to the champioship!
Neil Friesz started and was shaky so maxey was brought in in the 1st and shut them down the rest of the game and only gave up 1 hit the rest of the game.
everyone fought back and played very well after the 1st inning
We got florida tomro and ready for them

Now, thats gonna be tough.
Friesz under 20 pitches?
Peninsula Dad
08-04-2008, 09:45 PM
OK, lets get something straight. Friesz did not pitch poorly, he was undone by ...
1) 2 Early errors as NHLL came out a little tight...
2) Umpiring was horrendous behind the plate and got progressively worse as the game went on. Seemed like NHLL was playing Tennessee and the umps for a while. 1st base ump played a large part as well.
Now for the goods:
Maxey came in and did a tremendous job.
As they have done all tournament season, NHLL came back from being down, this time 4-0. They chipped away with 2 runs in the 2nd and then put up a 6 spot in the 5th with timely hitting.
There is no early favorite for tomorrow's starting pitcher. Webb, Deshong, and Wetzler are all candidates.
Good luck NHLL!!

Well, our storybook run is over!! Northampton Senior All-stars lost this morning to Fla. in a disappointing 11-0 ,5 inning loss. Their pitcher Mike Kelly totally shut the Va. team down. But they can still hold their heads up high , not many can say they have done this, and they ended up the second best team in 8 southern states!!!

Congratulations to the Northampton Senior Boys from District 7 for a great tournament run. They have not always gotten the recognication they deserved throughout the years but they continued to practice, practice, practice and received their reward. Enjoy the memories Darren and all the Northampton folks you can truly be proud of the great group of young men you have raised to be fine ambassadors of sportsmanship and fair play. Great job!!
