King leads hot bats for Raiders
By Dave Johnson|247-4649

Warwick’s softball team has been hot at the plate lately, and leading that charge is centerfielder and clean-up hitter Va King.

Going into Wednesday afternoon’s game against Kecoughtan, King had eighth hits in her last 12 at-bats to raise her batting average this season to .417. That’s third on the team behind Sarah Atkins (.449) and Travonna Byrd (.438).

"She’s really stepped it up more than anybody lately," Raiders coach Jimmy Dawson said. "She’s really been hitting the ball."

After a 9-1 loss to Gloucester on 20, Warwick scored 27 runs in back-to-back wins over Menchville and Woodside.

Dawson is also encouraged that catcher Erica Ward, who broke the index finger of her mitt hand five weeks ago, has been cleared to play.
