Gloucester extended its advantage on Menchville for the cumulative lead with one golf match left in the Peninsula District regular season.
In Wednesday's 18-hole round on the Piankatank River course, the Dukes won with a 342, three shots better than second-place Menchville.
The Dukes, with a 2,766 total for nine rounds, extended their lead to 26 shots over the Monarchs. The season's final regular-season round is Monday at Fort Eustis, and Gloucester and Menchville look secure in gaining the district's two berths in the Eastern Region tournament. Menchville (2,792) is well ahead of third-place Kecoughtan (3,055).
Menchville's Sean Gatz won Wednesday's individual medal with a 4-over-par 76, while Gloucester's Charles Higby was second at 78.
The individual race will be up for grabs at Fort Eustis. Menchville's Hunter Lewis leads with an average of 75.62 per round, with Gatz (77) and Higby (77.62) in contention.
