Peninsula Catholic's girls gained their first Catholic state cross country championship, winning Tuesday's meet at Newport News Park.
The Knights, featuring four seniors among their top five runners, dominated the meet, finishing with 32 points to runner-up Paul VI's 72.
The Peninsula Catholic boys took second place with 67 points, while Paul VI of Fairfax won with 49.
Bishop Sullivan's Taryn Schrader won the individual title, running 5 kilometers in 19 minutes, 3 seconds. But PC runners, including two pairs of sisters, took five of the top 10 spots to win a lopsided team race: Katie Mlynczak was third in 20:20, followed by Kimmy Fiscella (fourth, 20:29), Blythe Fiscella (sixth, 20:49), Kylie Regan (ninth, 20:59) and Kristy Mlynczak (10th, 21:15).
"They ran with great motivation and desire," coach Susan Bender said of her Knights. "Last year, we lost by 10 seconds and three points. They were really motivated to make sure they came out on top of the deal."
Ian McGinn took the boys title in 16:20, leading Paul VI's sweep of three of the top four positions. Brian Boeh paced PC by placing seventh in 17:18, while teammate Brian McKenna was ninth in 17:23.
