Cross country: Jamestown sweeps BRD boys, girls titles

Jamestown swept the boys and girls cross country championships Thursday in the Bay Rivers District meet on the Eastern State Hospital course.

The Eagles' Andrew Colley took the boys championship, and Lafayette's Heidi Peterson won the girls race.

Funny thing though...Grafton Boys XC took home the regular season 1st Place trophy with a record of 10-0...even though the Jamestown Boys team smoked the field today. Grafton's undefeated record really doesn't mean much when the team doesn't go up against the best in the district until the district meet. Put that trophy in the back of the trophy case up at GHS...the team knows who is the best in the district...and it isn't Grafton...just ask any of the boys on the GHS XC team.

Wacky, wacky sport this cross country. No other sport holds its best back during the regular season to trot them out during the district competition at the end of the season.
