Ok, why does this dude look so tall out there?? He looks a legit 6'3-6'4

Do you mean that Iverson looked 6-3 while playing for Bethel, or that he looks 6-3 playing for the Pistons?
He was an awesome HS football player, but I don't remember him towering over anyone. He was fast and elusive.

still holds the state record for interceptions in a game with 7.......that is just rediculous

He was not tall compared to the PD... we didn't think he was tall at all... FAST as lightning... yes, but not tall by any standard... EC Glass must have been short.
BTW,
Phoebus believed that if you popped Chuck in the mouth enough, he would ease up by the end of the 4th..... we won by 22-21.. so i guess we were right...
only if HAMPTON would have did the same thing, we would have been in the playoffs instead of Bethel that year.... winning state.....
Yet another reason why we hate HAMPTON...

Five, actually, but still ridiculous. He's the most amazing athlete I've ever seen.
Few years back, he was playing shortstop in his charity softball game. First at-bat, guy hits a hard grounder up the middle. AI scoots over to stab it, does a complete spin, and guns the guy out by two steps. And the thing is, I can't imagine he spends a lot of his time playing softball.

Its the truth.. all the ones who lost the game.... when you were undefeated and didn't need to win the game because you already had your playoff spot... instead, you lost the game, and didn't allowed Bethel to go to the playoffs instead of Phoebus....

More than likely Phoebus would have suffered an embarassing lost in the Play offs...I mean back then you had to beat teams like Deep Creek..

Man I seen alot of guys play two sports and some 3 that was good. But you are saying soccer also why not put in golf and darts. I'm not here to say he was not good in footbal or basketball but you are talking like he was sliding on water and didn't have skies.

haha all character issues aside, it was like whatever sport the guy tried he was just one of those gifted Athletes. I'm not sure if he still does his softball games anymore but if you ever get a chance you should see one, he puts on heck of a show. If nothin else you get to see alonzo mourning look all awkward every at bat.

It really doesn't surprise me, the whole area has turned into a crapshoot. People in the area don't look up to stars in the same way anymore. When I was a little kid it was cool to see those type of people. Now the youth of VA want to be the guys to jump those guys. As Jay-Z said, "If I shoot you I'm brainless, but if you shoot me your famous..."

Chuck has very long arms. They say he has the wing span of a 6'5" person. Maybe thats why he looks so tall. There was alot of talent in the PD during that era. Morocco Brown, Tony Rutland, Chuck, Lance Redding, Damon Bacote, Tj Carrington, Tory Edge, Myron Newsome and I'm sure there are many more.

I respect everyone's opinion, but to say Iverson is the best ever to come out of the PD is foolish... Yes he's one of the best... He would most deffently be in the top 10.. but what about all the players from the 60's, 70's, 80's??? The PD had tremendous talent back then as well.. . I do believe however that the 90's era had to be the best decade ever for sports in the PD....

I agree with a lot of the names on this list, however as much as I love my fellow Phantoms TJ, and Tory, not to mention Rutland, Bacote, and Newsome; they were outstanding football and basketball players yes, however I don't think they excelled in other sports the way they did football and basketball, which might take them out of the over conversation of best athlete. Now, that's not saying that they weren't great athletes, they just didn't excell in multiple sports, just as Morocco, Lance, or others like Marcus Mickel (Denbigh) or KK Wooden (Warwick). Anybody that's every seen Marcus play anything couldn't say that he wasn't a beast in anything that he played. AI type of speed and quickness (QB and CB), but he played for Denbigh, so that pretty much says it all. And on the court he was an animal as well. And Wooten was like Warwick's version of Devin Hester on the field and was a beast on the track.

I don't mean to cross up your point buddy ,maybe Ai is a little confused. I met him as a shortstop playing for Anderson Park LL. of.Newport News@ around 6yr-10yrs old during the mid 80's.Before i showed up at Phoebus in 86!

You look at the guys from Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton and York co.
Other than the football camp at CNU what goes on? And the one that puts on the camp at CNU he is not an PRO athlete. As someone said Boo Williams brings more to the area than ALL PRO athletes together.
You have over 25 PRO athletes from here and NOTHING for the area.

1. Ronald Curry
2. Leroy Keyes
3. Allen Iverson
Marty O'Brien and I did this top 100 project. I've always said that had Iverson had been able to play his senior year, it would have been interesting to see how the rankings would have gone.
BTW, for those who don't know or don't remember Leroy Keyes, he was Heisman Trophy runner-up (to O.J.) at Purdue, scored 2,000 points in basketball in high school and was a 24-foot long jumper in track.

So what you are saying is because he didn't play his senior year, that took away from what you knew he could do? Don't get me wrong, i understand the concept of not ranking him first and to be honest, the stats alone of Leroy makes a case for number one. But let me just throw something out there really quick; I think that we could all agree that Ronald was better in football, than any other sport. So my question is this; which was Chuck better in? I honestly think that he was better in football, he just had a basketball players' body; and that was his meal ticket.

The GOAT says that Curry was a football player who played basketball while Iverson was a basketball player who could play football. Iverson's quickness and toughness made him unstoppable on the football field, but it's not like he was dropping back and reading defenses. He hurt you more as a running QB, kick/punt returner, and interceptor. He was just a pure athlete, but not a pure football player. The stuff he did on the basketball court was nothing short of amazing, however.

Ok, so what you are saying that it's not a pure football player when you have five picks in one game? So I guess him reading QB's has nothing to do with being a football player? I'm taking it that you didn't see the Hampton-Bethel game his junior year, when he pretty much beat Hampton by himself? If that wasn't a pure football player, then I don't know what a football player is. I'm not saying that he was Roney Lott or anything, but he never shyed away from contact. And it's obvious that you haven't paid attention to the way he would sacrafice his body on the basketball court. I would pretty much call that the football player coming out of him. The fact that he wasn't a pure drop back passer doesn't take from the fact that he was the kicker, punter, free safety, QB, kick returner, and punt returner. And the only reason that he didn't get first team all district his junior year, was because Hampton had Sean Hamlett, who was Florida State bound. However, if you would have asked any coach that year who they feared throwing against more, and I promise you Iverson's name would have come up first. That was all politics. If he wasn't a pure football player, then I guess I have no clue about what football is all about.

Alright GOAT, KOAK is giving football a shot. KOAK does not know a whole lot about football but the King agrees with your Iverson/Curry comments. They were both awesome in their respective sports. Curry - Football and Iverson - Basketball. KOAK remembers watching Curry and the King would have to say that he is the best high school football player he has ever seen. The King also watched Iverson and no knock against Iverson because he too was very good. It was a shame that Iverson did not make the right decisions in high school and could not finish out his career as a high school athlete. These guys are just great athletes. They could have played any sport and been very successful outside of sports like Golf, Swimming, and Debate.

Ok, so do you also feel Iverson wasn't a football player; and that he was just an athlete in pads? Let me break this down a little more. I played against him in rec ball at the intermediate level, when he technically should have been playing with the midgets. He was too good to play at that level, so he moved up. The guy is a football player in a basketball players body. Now I will agree with you on this, that Curry was probably one of the greatest football players to ever play in this area (at the high school level). That I can't argue with you about. But for the GOAT to say that Chuck wasn't a real football player, and that he was just an athlete is mind blowing.
