Congratulations to Andrew Williams who is ranked 4th at 135 pounds. Excellent wrestler, excellent student, he should have his pick of several colleges. Good luck Andrew at Sectionals, Regionals and States.

From the archives: Virginia offered Williams the equivalent of only two full wrestling scholarships, so virtually all of his room and board will be paid for by an academic scholarship and loan package the school offered.

Hey yc sports,
I'm some what curious as to your response to my post about the Williams kid going to the University of Virginia on a Scholarship for Wrestling ? Can you enlighten me as to how you really feel , being its seems to me that your either very shocked , or some how feel he doesn't really deserve what he received for his very accomplished High School career ???????????

Congratulations to Andrew Williams. In today's Daily Press there is a report that Andrew has now won 201 varsity matches. I think that beats any other record in AA in Virginia, maybe also A and AAA. He will add more over the next two weeks.
And as a side note to the earlier post concerning Andrew receiving a wrestling scholorship -- to those who have watched Andrew wrestle throughout his varsity career, there was never a doubt that he would be offered full wrestling scholorships. However, you also have to remember that he has been an excellent student with excellent grades. So academic scholorships had to also be in the picture. He earned it! Good luck Andrew as you move from high school to college wrestling.

Not shocked UVA is fortunate to get the Williams kids I had heard he was also very bright headed to medical school just figured he would get more academic money then athletic money which some other post confirmed seems to me UVA gets a twofer a smart kid and a great wrestler so calm down

Hey y c,
Appreciate your response to my post, and your concerns about my emotions !! I didn't realize that my emotions needed to be in check , but coming from a certified Doc as yourself , I'll check to see if I took my medication today !! CRS is a bad thing when you get to be 81.

Andrew is a smart stud...and this fact will only help UVA wrestling. Anytime a coach can use multiple scholarships to get a stud helps the team...there is more athletic money to spend on the kids who can't get money for their grades.
Great Job Andrew...Remember Brewtus is a friend that is best to hang with on the weekend or to celebrate with; don't let him ruin your focus on what is important to you. All of us at the zoo are pulling for you.

Don’t sweat it old timer at your age I would have guessed you knew that an academic scholarship to an institution such as UVA carries a lot more distinction then a partial athletic but it is all good be careful as you are 81 years old you are prone to breaking bones
