It had been a long season for Heritage's softball team, but what happened last Thursday gave the Hurricanes a brief taste of success. In the bottom of the 12th inning, Brittany Simmons scored from third base on Brittany Thorpe's single, which gave Heritage a 5-4 win over Hampton. It broke a 15-game losing streak for the Hurricanes, a program that had lost 63 in a row from 2001-04. It was Heritage's lone win of the season. But for a young team it can only be a positive.
"It was a huge confidence boost," head coach John Crocker said. "We lost a lot of our best players from last year and this is a young team. But this, this should help break the ice."
