Molly Maffei hit two free throws with three seconds left to give New Kent a 36-35 home Bay Rivers triumph over Lafayette, greatly boosting the Trojans' chances in the five-way struggle for the final three spots in the district tournament. Nikia Canady led the Rams with 13 points, while Tyler Savage paced the Trojans with 13 in a game that was close throughout.
Lafayette seems likely to play Tabb in the tournament's 4-5 game.
