You know I really have debated whether or not to write this. I attended Phoebus High School for the finals this past weekend. I was very, very disappointed when I had left. I have been a wrestling fan for many, many years, and in many years I have attended the districts on the Peninsula, never have I seen so much unsportsman-like conduct.
I witnessed (and also videotaped) Bethel High wrestlers taunting Hampton, including a parent. Not once did I ever see the coach of Bethel correct these teammates. And not doing so made it escalate even more. I have lost total disrespect for Bethel. I really hate to put it out like this but hopefully from this post, maybe "a coach" will learn how to coach, and teach his wrestlers a little respect!!!
On another note... Good job Phoebus, Hampton, and Gloucester!!!!!

What a bunch of Crap ! Crap ! Crap ! Crap !....Bethel showed no sportsmanship ? Let the facts roll out my friend. First off the incident your reffering too happened at the very END of the district matches when a Hampton wrestler came to the Bethel side stands running his mouth because Hawkins lost to Fielder in the 130 finals and no parent was taunting anyone, thats a lie, Secondly Hampton was unsportsmanlike through out the entire tournament. Remember you brought this up pal..Was it sportsmanlike that Hampton wrestlers all refused to shake the Bethel coaches hands through out the tournament long before anything flared up ? Was it sportsmanlike for Hawkins at 130 to run off the mat and flip a table over in front of everyone after fielder from Bethel pinned him in the finals ? You obviiously dont have what I have on Video tape .. You talk about Bethel coaches ??? That is funny being that Hamptons Head coach wasnt even at the tournament because he was removed from the tournament for rule violations before the thing even started. Yeah by the way did everyone see that big Article in the paper about Hamptons Star wrestler Leonardi being Suspended from the District tournament for weight rule violations ?? So when it comes to unsportsmanlike conduct and coaching issues..Hampton takes the cake. I guess all of that combined with the fact that Hampton really had a very poor showing in most of the fans eyes at the tournamnet must of contributed to there wonderful behavior through out the day, I mean honestly they were NEVER in contention to win. I mean Bethel is compiled of freshmen and sophmores and they finished 4th, roughly 25 points behind Hampton, that wasnt supposed to Happen. Any other lies you wish to post, I will be happy to address them as well.

Let me guess, you must be the Bethel coach!!!! Oh I'm sorry!! Didn't mean to offend you, just stating FACTS not LIES!!! I think Hampton could have handled it in a different way. But I have to disagree with you on the fact that BETHEL DID START THIS AND A PARENT OF A BETHEL WRESTLER DID START THIS!!! You guys were'nt innocent in any way, shape, or form PAL!! I will definetly bring my videotape out on the table at anytime to anyone who would like to see this. So I'll have to disagree with you on that!! K PAL!!

No Im not a Bethel Coach, but I love how you fail to address all the issues mentioned there Buddy! You said Bethels coach needed to learn to "coach" and teach "respect". What about Hamptons coach ? Does it go something like this...... Lets try and break rules to win and if it doesnt work the coach and our best wrestler can just stay home and when we lose lets flip tables and oh if we want to be really really good sports lets not shake the coaches hands after our matches. LOL...... You dug yourself in a whole with your BS comments...Not only do I have video tape, but I dont need to produce a tape, all you have to do is read that big article on Leonardi being suspended from the district tournament to know what kind of program Hampton is running. .. Great job Phoebus, you guys wrestled hard and did things by the book, you deserved to win the tournament the way you did.. EASILY!

No...Your posts have gotten shorter and shorter and Ive made my points quite clear, in fact I have many many more if need be, along with the dailypress making it quite clear as well with their very informative recent article about the Hampton Wrestling program. When you said you debated on whether to post you should have went the other way Partner!

THIS IS RIDICULOUS! Districts is over and regionals are this weekend and people are still talking about districts. I think everyone WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BETHEL saw what went on during the finals this weekend. The Hampton 130-pounder could have handled himself better after his match, he had every right to be angry after that match and in mine and everyone i was sitting close to point of view that was a pretty tough call to make, it seemed like a freestyle pin, but thats not what this is about. We saw a little bit of "unsportsmanlike" from just about everyone in that gym saturday, but to say this was started by Hampton is a stretch. From where me and my wife were sitting, there were quite a few bethel wrestlers, and even atleast 2 parents, yelling stuff across the gym right after the 130 match, TO KIDS, that was very uncalled for and disrespectful to the sport of wrestling. The Hampton kids should have handled themselves better but you cant blame them for being upset after being disrespected in that way. the "ineligable" wrestler for hampton was there to support his team saturday and i witnessed him take alot of words in from other teams as well. while all this going on, i see the Bethel coaches doing nothing. That in itself should definitly be shown on all "veideo tapes" it was unprofessional and flat out STUPID! good luck to all PD participants this weekend.
