Now some have complained about how the Western Sectional was much harder than the Eastern Sectional. Here are a few statistics.

Western Sectional qualified 36 wrestlers – Eastern Sectional qualified 20 wrestlers
Eastern Sectional had 4 Champs
Western Sectional had 10 Champs and 8 finals were rematches
Western Sectional top three teams finish 1 2 3 with Poquoson leapfrogging New Kent.
You can say what you want but the statistics speak for themselves.

All the AD's had to do was separate Poquoson and New Kent for sectionals. But, as I posted before, it all came out in the wash at regionals. Question: Does anyone know when the Region I athletic directors meet? This stupid sectional process needs to go the way of the dinosaurs. Next year, have a BRD tourney, and let the Battlefield and Southside combine for tourney, period. I know the argument is the talent is deeper in the BRD, but so what? If you can't qualify in your district, then why go forward to regionals? STOP THE INSANITY!

I've also heard talk of an open regional tournament, where each school could enter each weight class. Would have to be held over two days like the Eastern Region and the state tournaments are done.

even better! It would afford the best wrestlers a better chance to advance.

First let me say, I believe the west sectional was much tougher than the east sectional and Poquoson and New Kent should have been separated; however let me ask this question:

What impact does anyone think that an open regional tournament would have on the current qualifiers?

Personally; I can't think of anyone who didn't qualify who would have qualified if anything was done differently. I do agree that there may be some changes in who qualified 2nd thru 4th, but only in the position that they qualified and not the whether or not they qualified. There is always going to be upsets, but I believe the 4 best at each weight earned their way in and barring addtional upsets; I think the list is an accurate list of the top 4 wrestlers at each weight in region 1.

The changes wouldn't be in the top 4. I agree with that.

However; some lesser quality wrestlers were able to advance from the East while a few from the West went home early simply because of the draw.
