Nothing against you Warick but I have heard alot of "we should have won" from that school this year. I do believe that you have a good squad but the bottem line is what was your record against the other 5 tourny teams? I do believe that you are the x factor going into next week. If I were the other teams I would be praying that I was bracketed to play you last.

I did not mean that to be offensive. I do believe that you are the biggest threat in the tourny. If I were MHS or KHS I would not want you in the semi because if they do make it past you it is going to take a lot out of them for the final. What I meant by the other part is that every game that you have lost this year has been followed on here by people with nothing but excuses for the loss. All they have to say if that it was a good game but we loss, oh well. Not it was the refs, the field, the weather, injured player, etc. That seems to be all that I have heard all year. I wish you luck next week and I am sure that you have 2 teams playing that you are in the other half.

As far as the warwick fans continuing to talk trash: shut up. its getting old, even to me. i will agree that this tournament will be better than any that i have played in/seen. any of the top 4 can win and warwick is the most dangerous team to menchville and kecoughtan, barring a total collapse (and also assuming that they can get themselves together). right now menchville is the best team without a question. so warwick people: shut up until the tournament is over because you are priming yourself to look very dumb if something goes wrong next week...

it's at gloucester... again... as always. they should open up Todd in the future or at least play on menchvilles field. gloucester is too far away; no one wants to pay the tolls or make the drive. gloucester's field is average at best. as far as the first round games go, gloucester might have a tough time against bethel because they actually look decent this year. as long as warwicks offense is in sync they wont have any troubles will denbigh. but ill bite my tongue because phoebus almost took out warwick last year in the first round. cant wait for the potential menchville vs. warwick game. should be one of the best this year.

Not quite sure why they have the PD Tournament at GHS and it's annoying as well. But none the less, we must deal with it.
I don't agree with having it at Darling Stadium or Todd Stadium for that matter. This game was meant to be played on an open surface, and unfortunately the district games have been played in small boxes they call fields.
The Hampton Soccer Complex, Menchville field, or Mary Passage are the only ones that provide the openness needed for the game to flow like it should.
I think the game of the tourney will be WHS and MHS, if WHS gets past DHS. Anything can happen and I'm not minimizing WHS's chances, but it should be very interesting.

Warwick vs Denbiegh
Warwick seems to be the better team with there strong forwards, but I feel could be a close game. It kinds of matters how Warwick defense plays. Denbiegh has no amazing players, but a lot of average to good players. Watch out for the kid up top very fast and has a good right foot. Only thing that bothers me about denbiegh is there defense, not the fastest and doesn't consist of any of their top players
Score 2-0 Warwick
Gloucester vs Bethel
Gloucester beat bethel 3-0 earlier this year. Clif Kipper is gloucester best player and looks to lead them through the tournamnet. But Bethel has started playing pretty good soccer towards the end of the season losing to Warwick 2-1 tieing Denbeigh 2-2 and beating Phoebus 3 or 4-0, so you may want to look out for bethel and might surprise Gloucester in a close game.(Dont forget bethel played menchville there closest game of the year, taking them to overtime.)
2-1 Golucester

Good analysis of the games.
I see WHS winnnig as well, and GHS earning a victory to face KHS.

im pretty sure there is some explanation to why the games are at gloucester. it seems that every school gets to host some kind of tournament or invitational every year. i know for a fact that kecoughtan gets a swimming invitational and also another school hosts the district track meet. so i guess gloucester gets soccer. its just a fund raiser for the school.

The tournament is, unfortunately, at Gloucester every year because the AD there is in charge of boys and girls soccer and chooses the venue. Each AD in the Peninsula District is in charge of a sport and makes decisions for it. For example, MHS is in charge of tennis, Warwick/track and field, Phoebus/girls softball, Kecoughtan/swimming, Heritage/girls and boys basketball, Denbigh/baseball, etc..... The ideal location for the PD soccer tournament is CNU, but it is such a nice fundraiser for GHS they will never give it up until the sport is taken over by another AD. Wherever the venue, it must have the capability to charge for tickets and have decent seating arrangements.
And, bottom line, soccer is not exactly the most popular sport for the AD's. All of them are too old to have played in high school or college themselves so they really don't care about where the tournament is played. And the coaches in the PD never get together to complain so nothing ever changes.

That's a good point about CNU's field, but that's where they hold state and I don't think that Steve Shaw will want that field to get all that abuse with districts and states being held there.

This is the last year for VHSL spring championships in Newport News so hopefully some momentum can be gained for the districts to be played at CNU in the future. The final four is moving to Northern Virginia next year and for the next several years after that. If you want to see some very competitive high school soccer, come out to CNU in a few weeks for the AAA semis and finals. The Richmond and No. Virginia teams that typically make it to the final four are almost like watching some small colleges play.

I'll definately watch the state championship games again this year... they are incredible. Those schools must have amazing sports facilities, with all of the titles they've brought in. I agree that, in a good matchup, it's like a college level game out there (the setting of CNU helps this illusion, Im sure)

Just to clear this up for everyone,
even though the pd district soccer tournament is held in Gloucester' stadium,
the money DOES NOT GO TO THE SCHOOL HOSTING THE EVENT !!!!
that just is not true.......it goes to the district pot of money
One of the reasons the tournament is held at GHS is the stadium
no other peninsula district school has a venue OR STADUIM like gloucester
but it is a long travel and the t bridge tolls as well as the $6 ticket
maybe this year they will actually have tp in the restrooms.

Haha, tp... ha. Well i would much rather have it closer to home but i dont know. GHS isnt a bad place to have it. I cant really think of any other highschools in the PD with a nice soccer field with a stadium and snacks. But i just cant wait.
