STORY: Jamestown 25, Poquoson 20
Jamestown runs past Poquoson 25-20 By Chris Lancia | Correspondent JAMES CITY -- Jamestown proved Saturday night that it can do more than just pass the ball. The Eagles ran for 246 yards and four scores in a 25-20 win over Poquoson at the James City County Sports Complex. With senior quarterback Mick Laycock, the leading passer in the Bay Rivers District last season, under center, the Eagles were determined to have offensive balance this year. "People know Jamestown throws the ball, so we really wanted to run the ball more," said Jamestown head coach Ryan Turnage. "We did a pretty good job tonight, and I’m really proud of our offense for the way they played. But hats off to Poquoson, because they didn’t quit and made it tough on us." Senior running back Curtis Stevenson ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns, and Rakeem Pressey added 89 more. Laycock finished 8-of-15 for 68 yards. Poquoson hung around thanks to several big plays on offense, including a catches of more than by Colton Crabtree and Kendall Charles. Senior quarterback Eric Nixon threw for 126 yards and ran for 26, including a nine-yard run with 3:14 left in the game to pull the Islanders within five. Jamestown kept the ball on the ground to run out the clock, leaving Poquoson 0-11 under head coach Elliott Duty. "Our guys never give up, and that’s all I can ask of them," said Duty. "We had several games last year that we were in during the fourth quarter, and we had a chance tonight. We just came up a little short, but I’m proud of our guys because they kept fighting right until the clock ran out." Re: STORY: Jamestown 25, Poquoson 20
It seems that if you complain about the officals that you are a sore Loser. This game was full of bad calls, and alot of no calls at all. Jamestown was offsides on almost every Kickoff. What Bewilders me the most that these young men work all year around training and weight lifting , it seems that the Officals should have to training also, just not in the class room but on the field to. It's a shame that the Officals run off the field at the end of the game because they are afraid of the fans because they know they called a bad game. If they are calling a bad game at least call it bad on both sides. What kind of training do the officals have?

Re: STORY: Jamestown 25, Poquoson 20
The officials did a pretty good job of calling an equal number of fouls on each team. The fouls against Poquoson were called at terrible times. Maybe they were good calls, maybe they weren't. As Poquoson fans, we know there has been friction between the officials and the Coaches, or the City, or something for a while now. It's a shame that the kids are the ones that pay the price. They work hard getting ready to play every year. I hope someone gets this problem resolved and let the kids play ball.

Re: STORY: Jamestown 25, Poquoson 20
hahahaha blaming the officials for your loss doesnt do the kids justice either. the officials made horrible calls against both teams. both teams played their butts off and one came out on top. Bad officiating has been apart of BRD football forever and always will be, its high school these guys arent perfect, and by no means changed the outcome of that game. Hats off to poquoson they made that game alot closer than i thought they would, but dont demean that effort by blaming the loss on the officials (poquoson also gave up over 250 yards rushing). It was a great game and I hope poquoson can give Warhill a nice welcome to the BRD this week.

Re: STORY: Jamestown 25, Poquoson 20
I don't think anyone is blaming the officials any more than we did last year.....
However; if anyone has tape of the game you can see that Jamestown was offsides on every kickoff and I'm not talking a half a yard or two, but by almost 5 yards, additionally when two backs went in motion at the same time and the call wasn't made until after the running back was tackled for a 10 yard loss; you have wonder what is going on. It is understandable that many bad calls were made against both team, and that many calls weren't bad at all, but more like calls made for infractions that came at an inopertune time. However; when calls are obviously blown or not called it is hard to accept that the officials are doing an honest job. Nothing should be taken away from Jamestown. Their players and coaches were well prepared and intuned to what was required to win the game. Other teams who think "if they corral Laycock, they will beat Jamestown" better wake up and smell the coffee because if they are that prepared for every game, they are going to be tough to beat. Which goes to say (and kind of obvious); if Poquoson is going to win a game or two or more-- the players and coachs are going to have to do their part in preparing for each game. Saturday night was a prime example of losing a game because of mistakes and calls (and I'm not only talking about the officials) Poquoson has the talent and is on the edge of being a really good team, but they are not going to get there on talent (or strength) alone. For years the Back River and Poquoson youth football leagues (smallest teams in PYFA) have been competative and winning PYFA Super Bowl, but they did it with HEART and GUTS (and some great coaching). Jamestown is an impressive team to watch and I would not be suprised to see them start this season off 2-0...........Yes, that means Grafton would start out 0-2. I look forward to watching Poquoson the rest of this season and for years to come. As long as they learn from this heart felt loss, they will be a team to look out for. |

Re: STORY: Jamestown 25, Poquoson 20
If you knew the rules, two running backs in motion does not consitute killing the play. This is a live ball foul.
All these so called "expert" fans are idiots for the most part. At least know the rules before showing your ignorance. FYI College Rules and Pro Rules are different in many aspects of the game versus high school. If you think you can handle the games and know the rules then why don't you show your stuff as an official. Nobody is turned away. |
