Swimming: State Group AAA meet preview
WHEN: 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.
WHERE: George Mason University’s Patriot Aquatic Center, Fairfax.
TICKETS: $7 per person per day.
OUTLOOK: Northern Virginia schools have dominated this meet, winning all 11 girls championships and nine boys titles. Warwick’s Kohl Hurdle won two events in last week’s Eastern Region meet. He’s seeded fourth in the 200-yard individual medley and seventh in the 100 backstroke. Menchville’s Mason Lewis is the only other Peninsula District swimmer seeded in the top 10. He’s fourth in his specialty, the 100 butterfly. Among the girls, no individual is seeded in the top eight. Menchville’s 200 freestyle relay is seeded seventh and the 400 team is ninth. Kristina Lewis, McKenzie Hogan, Alexa Sears and Rachel Sears are on both relays. Preliminaries are this afternoon. Diving competition takes place Saturday morning, and the swimming finals are Saturday afternoon and evening.
DIRECTIONS: From Interstate 95, take exit 160, which is Route 123 north, 14.5 miles to Braddock Road. Then turn left on Sideburn Road to the center.
