Hey Buckeyein VA - check this out

Hey Buckeyein_Va-

After reading your post about removing Southampton from the Bay Rivers District, I got to wondering about travel times and the associated differences for Southampton’s travel concerns.

Today’s approximate travel times for the BRD. Compiled from Google Maps.
These numbers have been rounded and are "rough" to say the least:

Lafayette 1 hr 45 mins
Tabb 1 hr 45 mins
Bruton 1 hr 45 mins
Jamestown 1 hr 45 mins
York 1 hr 45 mins
Grafton 1 hr 45 mins
New Kent 1 hr 35 mins
Poquoson 1 hr 30 mins
Smithfield 55 mins

Now, if Southampton is moved to the Southside District, the next “closest” district, the travel times take an interesting twist:

Prince Edward 2 hrs 30 mins
Bluestone 2 hrs 15 mins
Nottoway 1 hr 45 mins
Powhatan 1 hr 42 mins
Park View – South Hill 1 hr 25 mins
Brunswick 1 hr
Greensville 40 mins

As you can see, there isn’t any real advantage for the Indians moving. It’ll only ease the travel concerns for the rest of the Bay Rivers. Unfortunate geographic location/student enrollment. Obviously, there isn’t an easy fix to this situation.

Wayne, it doesn't matter if it will be inconvient to Southampton. As long as the York and Jamestown teams don't have to travel. You have heard what their fans sayabout Smithfield and Southampton.

Well observer, that wasn't the intent of my post. I wasn't interested in bringing up that old tired discussion. I was just trying to provide an informative post about travel concerns, costs, time and the hardship that would be placed on "other" teams. The point I was attempting to make was that Southampton is the team on the outside looking in, there isn't another district that they could play in where looooooooooong traveling wouldn't be involved. It's not their fault....geographic location - it is what it is. I'm not getting on here trying to be the voice of the Indians. If people want to talk about Southampton being removed from the BRD, let's look at all of the other concerns - where do they go? Southside would give them a 7 game district schedule.....then who do they play? OK Franklin - 20 minutes away - now we're up to 8 games. BRD teams would fill their schedule with some other team....James Monroe, Surry, Powhatan, Courtland etc...., so now Southampton has to travel even farther to find a couple of other games to fill their schedule. Although I'm sure Sussex Central would love to play them but can SH afford to play two Single A teams, when the southside District is heavy with D-3 teams? Blah - too many variables, too many what-ifs. An 11 team BRD, play your 10 team district schedule, you want your grudge matches? Host a benefit game. Keep traveling.
New Kent and Smithfield will be AAA in a few years anyway.....that'll solve part of the problem. Yes New Kent will be, I was talking to Ed Allen last year and they are expecting to be pretty close to AAA numbers in a few years. Then the BRD will be back to 9 and their universe will be balanced again - LOL!
I was just trying to provide some thought provoking info.....let's create an equal scenario, where everyone wins. We have some pretty creative individuals on this site. Let's toss around some ideas, maybe we'll come up with something that the BRD AD's can carry to the VHSL for discussion when the next round of realignments take place....
Send them on! I don't want any name calling - let's keep it real and POLITE!

What are you referring to Jamestown? I don't think anybody said anything about a Jamestown "City". I'm pretty certain that everyone that reads this string of posts understands that Jamestown is in Williamsburg. Where did you come up with that?
Sorry - Back to Topic - I didn't use the addresses of where the BRD teams play their home games in my search....ie I used Williamsburg to Courtland or Yorktown to Courtland for travel times to keep it simple.
