Menchville takes PD golf lead

WILLIAMSBURG - Menchville High took an early 14-stroke lead Wednesday in the Peninsula District golf race, and Charles Higby of Gloucester gained the individual lead.

The Monarchs shot a 331 at The Colonial Golf Course in the district season opener, 14 shots better than Gloucester and 19 fewer than Warwick.

The second match is at 10 p.m. Thursday, when the teams will gather at The Woodlands in Hampton. Ten matches comprise the regular season.

Higby fired a 2-over-par 74. Kecoughtan's Joseph Evans was next at 77, with Menchville's Hunter Lewis third at 79.
