Re: Surry Football & Tri-Rivers District Prediction

Hey there - Mr Cougar - I have to agree with you. I think that Surry can have a very special season this year, if everything falls in place at the correct time. I have to say though, Franklin looks to be the odds on favorite this year. If your Cougars can hang a convincing L on Franklin during the regular season, then we may very well be watching those Cougars play in early December this year.

Just wondering one thing - how is Damien Whitely faring over there in Surry? Actually - I heard last night that he isn't playing for Surry - is that true? I sure hope not, kid is a gifted athlete, we're going to miss him at Smithfield this year....not too much though we have some really athletes to fill that void.

Good luck this year!

Re: Surry Football & Tri-Rivers District Prediction

I would have to agree, Franklin is always a "X" factor in the district. I dont have any info on whether Damien is Playing or not....when I find out more, I will make a post. I CANT WAIT UNTIL SURRY PLAYS SMITHFIELD!!!! BATTLE OF ROUTE 10 BAY-BEE!! We know Dyrell is going to try to show out being this will be his last time playing against Surry. We got his card with Trenton Porter spying at linebacker.....its on from here.......cant wait!!

Damien was at Isle of Wight academy yesterday watching the team practice and talking to coach Chapman, although he would never unseat Rusty Brake(6'3 215) at QB he could definately see some time on the Definsive side of the ball over there and at Wideout if he worked hard enough

I love this kind of talk - Smithfield doesn't have another threat to be seen on the field. Mr. Cougar - young Mr. Porter may very well be Dyrell's "Card" (I wouldn't take that bet if I were you) but who's gonna take care of the other "10" that we line up with? Key on Dyrell, makes good football sense, don't let the big gun break you. You'll see soon enough that this years Packers are NOT one dimensional - many, many weapons in this years arsenal. Battle of Rt.10 trophy will be maintained by the Packers again this year! LOL!

Re: Surry Football & Tri-Rivers District Prediction

Hahhahahahaha Well, I think Surry will key on Dyrell. We will take our chances and make the other "10" beat us, which will never happen...... I heard the Packers need a reliable quarterback first of all.....If Smithfield can't distribute the ball, its going to be "PROBLEMS" for you Packer Backer. I know for a fact that the guys in Surry are well conditioned and will be ready for anything the packers throw at Surry. FYI, Surry beat up on New Kent last Friday which happens to be a very good "AA" Bay Rivers team. Remember in the statement below "NewKentDad" states ("Surry is Defensively very quick and extremeley Aggressive") TRUST ME, WATCH OUT SMITHFIELD, SURRY IS MARCHING DOWN ROUTE 10 to take that trophy, you gets nothing!!LOL~Here is a write up from user "NewKentDad":

===========
Last night Surry beat New Kent 3 to 2 or 18 to 12 ( however you want to look at it) in a controlled scrimmage ( 15 plays and out). These are just the things that I noticed.

Surry: Big, Big, Big, Never saw a bigger offensive line ( including Southampton). Excellent passing game. Wide outs have speed, great hands and are willing to battle for the ball. Twice Surry scored on passing plays, once from a tipped ball hauled in by a wide out and again by the same wideout ( I think #21) wrestling a interception away from the defender then scoring the td. Quarterback #11 throws everthng on a rope, great arm. Very polished passing attack. They can run as well but going to the air is definetley thier strong suit. Defensively very quick and extremeley aggressive. Surry should go far this year. I appologize for not knowing names just not familiat with Surry but they did a great job. Great job also by the coaches rotating the big guys. Guys in and out every few plays, kept them pretty fresh.

New Kent: The offense was not firing on all cylinders early. A lot of this could be caused by the decision of the starting center to leave the team on Wed. Another player has stepped in but do to the New Kent shotgun formation needs more time to work on his snaps. The ball seemed to hang for ever and the snaps were all over the place. This will get better with practice. New Kent showed that when the snap gets there they will be interesting. They scored on a 70 yard 8 play drive and a 60 yard 3 play bomb for a td. They also showed that it might be running back by committe as 5 different backs carried the ball. After the first series New Kent switched to only 10 offensive plays vs 15 for Surry. Coaches wanted more pressure on the offensive to move the ball quickly. They respond with both scores and a steady movement of the ball and gave the ball back 3 times after good drives. On defense the 3-5 that New Kent will run this year did not look to bad. Still needs a little work on pass coverage but even with the two scores given up a defender had a hand on the ball. On the run with the exception of a couple of good runs they preformed pretty well.

Overall a pretty even scrimmage, both teams made some mental mistakes, penalties and such but both teams played well and each showed the ability to throw the ball long. Good speed on both sides. Credit to all the players as it was flat miserable out there. Thermostat in the car read 96 when we pulled up in the parking lot and it felt a lot worse than that. No major injuries so all and all a successful night for both sides.
