STORY: Jamestown runs to W&M 'A' title
Jamestown boys run to W&M 'A' title Jamestown showed why it is considered one of the top boys cross country teams in the state and Mid-Atlantic region, winning the elite "A" division Saturday at the William and Mary Invitational. The Eagles finished atop the field of 27 teams with 91 points, followed by Ocean Lakes with 138. Andrew Colley led the Eagles by placing second in 15 minutes, 24 seconds two ticks behind winner Johns Ross of the Potomac School. Gloucester's boys also competed in the "A" group, placing 18th as Doug Fenstermacher ran a 16:13. Menchville was 21st, Kecoughtan 24th. In the girls "A" division, Western Branch and C. Milton Wright each scored 112 points to head the field of 24, but Wright had the faster sixth runner. Gloucester was 11th at 312, Menchville 21st and Kecoughtan 23rd. Western Branch won the boys "B" division at 66, followed by Westfield of Northern Virginia at 77. Hickory was fourth at 133, Lafayette seventh at 190. Austin Ellis of Charlottesville's Covenant School won the "B" race in 16:14, but the next two finishers were from Hampton Roads: Tabb's Will Mulherin in 16:26 and Hickory's Blake Theroux in 16:40. Colonial Forge won the girls "B" title at 58, and seventh-place Lafayette, at 202, paced the Hampton Roads teams. Oscar Smith's Kerry Kelley ran a 19:13 for the individual crown. In the boys "C" race, Newark (N.Y.) won at 82. Grassfield led the Hampton Roads contingent, coming in third at 113. Newark's Seth Latray won in 16:16, with the Grizzlies' ninth-place Aaron Harrison (19:20) heading the locals. In the girls "C" division, Potomac School edged Grassfield 71-75 for first place, with Tabb third at 95 and Hickory fourth at 97.
