Saturday's Games/rain outs?

Did any games besides Kecoughtan/Woodside get done before the rain?

KHS won 7-1 in a rain shortened 5 inning game. Woodside scattered 4 hits through 5 innings and Nate Matheson pitched his way out of bases loaded jams in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings. One of those was a diving catch by right fielder Tony Leite and doubling the base runner up at 2nd.

The Warriors bats were back today with 8 hits and what would have been a ninth hit, a lead off HR in the top of the 6th by Kippy Holbrooks. The game was then delayed and finally called when the sky let loose.

Seems like the loss of big names is having a greater affect on Woodside than Kecoughtan...

Re: Saturday's Games/rain outs?

I'm not sure Saturday's a good indication of Woodside's talent. The game was played entirely in the rain and Kecoughtan just hit the ball where they weren't. Westfall was clearly uncomfortable with the footing on the pitcher's mound as he kept trying to clean his cleats and kick the dirt around. Luckily, none of the pitchers twisted anything slipping in the mud. That's a real concern with a wet field

There was one scary moment in the game when a sharp liner down the third base line took a wicked hop and hit Woodside's third baseman right in the face. He went down hard and lay there for some time while they got rags and ice. I heard he took it right above the eye so you know it bleed like crazy. Hope the kid's ok and wish him the best. Nobody wants to see something like that.

I also heard today that it was a broken nose. He is a very good player and we hope he will be able to return to the field soon.
