I agree that two in one day, much less two in one season is special, I guess I was just trying to put emphasis on how special that is and it just struck me that saying they 'abound' is to say they happen a lot (basically, we are violently agreeing to the same point!).

Thanks for the article today, it was was nicely written and again tells everyone how much of a special day both these young men had.

Re: Perfect game

Two quality opponents. Mighty Heritage and Pheobus. A combined 1-15 record.

Re: Perfect game

Actually, I believe it was Denbigh the other PG was thrown against, not PHS. Still, not a powerhouse. Let's not take away anything from the kid from GHS, but instead think: What if Cave, Mays, Lake, Vick had pitched against HeHS or PHS last year? Possibly multiple PGs would've been tossed. But what would've been the point of throwing them when they were gonna win anyways with their #3 guy?

Actually, Cave did pitch a 5 inning perfect game against Phoebus last year but I don't know if any of the other 4 pitched against the bottom 2 or 3 teams. Sometimes a coach will pitch a kid because they have set up somewhat of a rotation. If Cave hadn't pitched that game he would have gone a couple of weeks without pitching.

Same goes for Matheson vs. Heritage this year. He needed the innings otherwise he would not have pitched. That said, Matheson was hitting his spots nearly flawlessly in that game. No, it wasn't as impressive as it would have been against a Hampton or Menchville. But it was extremely impressive, especially when you consider the loooonngg time between innings while your offense is batting.

Well done to both pitchers as well as the softball pitcher from Gloucester.

Re: Perfect game

Holy cow, Jake Cave threw a Perfect-O against Phoebus last season!? Wow!............Seriously though, if he didn't no-hit them at least that've been embarrassing. 91-94mph against kids that are just figuring out the game... really?

And come on now, even if Nate needed innings, what's the point of throwing him 5 against HeHS? All you need in a game like that is two or three innings and maybe a bullpen later in the week, but that's where smart coaching comes into play... The point is, they ran Nate out there vs HeHS for an entire game... Of course he dominated them, he was probably laughing the whole time because he knew they weren't gonna touch him for 5 innings... Good for him though, honestly. But I'm just trying to open eyes here or maybe stir the pot because honestly, there aren't many people left in the district or on these discussion boards that really know the game

I wasn't bragging on Cave throwing a perfect game against Phoebus. Merely letting you know that yes, one of the big five from last year, did throw against one of the weaker teams. Stir the pot all you want. I am not looking for controversy on here or using it to put kids down, or coaches for that matter. I am so thankful that there is someone, like yourself, that knows everything about baseball and how these coaches should manage their pitchers.
