Menchville Comes Alive!
With the odds against them, Menchville broke out the fire power and took the district championship from Hampton Thursday at War Memorial. Facing the peninsula district's player of the year (Steve Hux) on the mound, Menchville pounded out 9 runs, hitting throughout their line-up and knocking Hux out of the game. Deep pitching and hot bats from Menchville's line-up appeared too much for Hux and the Hampton team.
Hats-off to all the District Champion Menchville players ! Well done! ![]() |

Re: Menchville Comes Alive!
Technically, they're both Co-District Champions, just Menchville won the automatic bid to the Regional Tourny. I thought both teams (offensively) started out slow and flat. Then the bats on both sides woke up, with Menchville dropping in a few more than Hampton could, so it seemed. In Hampton's defense, it is really hard to beat a team 3 times in a season so I wasn't too surprised Menchville won, even though I still can't grasp why the game was even played at all... Hampton won head-to-head both times, which, in a normal world would mean they win the automatic bid even though the teams had the same record... but this is the Peninsula District so I guess anything is possible

Re: Menchville Comes Alive!
Co-District Champions? Not the way I understood it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I understood the 'play-off' game was to determine who won the district, and hence would be the #1 seed for the Regional tournament. Do you have other information to the contrary?
Hard to beat a team 3 times in a season? I heard Hampton has 5 'First team' All District players. Plus two more on '2nd. team' All District! ![]() |

Re: Menchville Comes Alive!
No, Chin Music is correct. Technically, they are both co-champions and each will receive a trophy. The playoff game was to decide which would get the No. 1 seed and the PD's automatic spot in the Eastern Region.
Same as in basketball, where Hampton and Kecoughtan were technically co-champions, though the Crabbers won the playoff game for the No. 1 seed and regional spot. |
