Boys Soccer no longer an "Other Sport"

As of Friday May 18th, Boys soccer is no longer an "Other Sport." You can go directly to the "Boys Soccer" forum by using the "Forums" menu in the nav bar, where I also added some other important links. I separated the threads into their respective districts and divisions. Let me know if you see any problems.

I have also re-ordered the major forum categories, based upon which sports are currently in season. This will be the standard from now on. Springtime? Spring sports up top. Fall? Fall sports up top. You get the idea.

Coming soon: improved navigation, so you can find results and standings easier.

Looks great... Thanks for the change. I'm wondering if the girls side of the house couldn't be merged into the same structure. IE: FORUMS - SOCCER - BAY RIVERS BOYS and FORUMS - SOCCER - BAY RIVERS GIRLS.

Re: Boys Soccer no longer an "Other Sport"

Last I checked, football and basketball are fall and winter sports, repsectively. I guess the girls still sit at the back of the bus for soccer.... Didn't care one way or another, but when you move the boys you would think the girls would at least be right behind them... Plus, softball is also a spring sport...

Re: Boys Soccer no longer an "Other Sport"

Both of the above are good points. We will consider separating Softball and Girls Soccer. Here's the thing though... by separating them out, I would have to create seven new forums for each sport - one for each district in the area. That would mean fourteen new forums where there are two right now. The organization of the forums is something we considered carefully, and in fact, are still considering. One of the biggest challenges with communities like this is to not have too many forums, which makes navigation difficult.

Believe it or not, the structure of the forums has nothing to do with gender or sport - just the amount of activity in each forum. The Boys Soccer forum was getting as much activity as any other, and certainly justified the separation into the districts. This was done in response to several requests, and it made sense. We're listening to you!

As to the other point: it is true that Girls Soccer and Softball are spring sports, and should be above Football and Basketball if we are going to order them by what's in season. But if I moved them up and out of the "Other Sports" major category, and did not separate them into the seven districts, they would be stuck in between major forum categories, which would make them harder to find. Perhaps I should have left the order like it was. I hope this makes sense - it's sort of hard to explain.

I would like to point out that you can get directly to Girls Soccer and Softball by using the "Forums" menu at the top of the page. Perhaps all the forums should be listed in that menu? But then the menu would be so long!

As always, we are open to suggestions, and as the site grows, its structure will continue to evolve so as to be easy to use. That's our ultimate goal. Like I said, these are good points, and we'll be thinking about them. Please keep the suggestions coming. This is your community, not ours, and we want to make it the best it can possibly be!

Thanks for your input, and thanks for participating!
