Re: Congrats to Maury and Norcom...

Yes back to topic. I knew you would say that, but what you don't know is that in the 2 previous Phoebus games both teams averaged slightly over 20 fouls, WAY less than the tournament average. One game Phoebus was whistled for only 11 fouls. Refs seemed to handle the big bad Phoebus team without any altercations at all.Subsequent that.

Look i haven't been on this forum that long but all i've seen from you are posts bringing up altercations and trying to blame Phoebus for them.I never tried to place blame on any of that anywhere, i just commented on this ONE games officiating.I also said both teams had plenty of chances to win and i even said they were consistent, even though it was consistently bad.I even said no team got an advantage. You even said that they should have called MORE fouls...do you agree with me or not, make up your mind.

I didn't blame Phoebus for anything other than being in mulitple altercations. That's a plain and simple fact. One time is an accident, 2 or 3 times is a trend. And being involved in altercations doesn't make a team "big & bad". Just means the refs are gonna be on the look-out.

Phoebus' first 2 regionals were blow-outs, the foul count in those games has nothing to do with the foul count in their evenly matched game against Norcom.

And I said there should be more fouls called out front on guards and less in the paint. That was a general statement about HS basketball. HS refs allow waayyy too much hand-checking out front while calling too many touch fouls in the paint. That opinion has nothing to do with Phoebus.

We could debate forever and each of us has his own preference.

I just happen to believe that if players can't guard you and continually send you to the free throw line that you are pretty good.

If you don't get to the line often, as Finney-Smith didn't seem to when I saw him, then you don't put pressure on guys you are playing against.

Good players put pressure on defenders.

That is my measuring stick.

I have only seen Finney-Smith once and his game didn't wow me, but that was one visit. I can get to Norcom pretty easily after work, so I will check him out next season.

I will check him out this summer on Boo's team, also.

I wish him well. It is a blessing that his parents don't have to pay for either of their kids to attend college.

I heard he is looking at Clemson. I would caution him that their graduation rate for African-American Basketball players is 25%. Probably not somewhere you want to attend if you are serious about academics. He should pose that question to Oliver Purnell the next time he calls.

I understand what you are saying, but if Finney-Smith is more of a team player that averages 20 points a game. He put pressure on teams that he needs to perform well against. For instance, Phoebus, he went to the line 17 times, because he was being aggressive. His average a game is 12-15 times at the free throw line. Look up the stats the VA-Stats dude up here will let you know.
Another big difference, Dejesus bought his team down by scoring all those points, Finney-Smith lead his team to the state tournament. That's a major difference.

Dorain Finney-Smith is the Eastern Region Player of the Year, along with Eastern District Player of the Year!
Congrats
You have a couple more things you need to win this year.

Good points all.

He's being recruited, so the people who need to like him are pursuing him.

I don't think he is a bad player. I guess when people hype folks up and you finally see them there can sometimes be a disconnect.

I expected certain things based on what I heard.

I expected Kobe, but got Danny Manning. They both win and that's all that matters.
