Re: 2010 All-Bay Rivers District softball team

One more thing real quick. So by the coaches voting they are saying Erin Linthicum from Smithfield was the seventh best pitcher in the district. Which bar did the coaches meet at? I think they may have had a few to many. JUST SAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 2010 All-Bay Rivers District softball team

First of all, congratulations to all of the BRD softball girls. I am so proud of you and your hard work. It is a REAL SHAME that our coaches chose not to reward based upon performance.

It would be really "eye-opening" to see the stats of the girls who were selected for this year's team (as Marty provided for the baseball team). It is more apparent than ever that politics reared its ugly head during this voting. What a shame that many girls who deserved all district honors did not receive ethical treatment. Yes, BRD coaches, you should feel ashamed of yourselves for your selfishness and downright rude treatment of many of our area's best athletes. Huskey, Winfree, and Putnam are prime examples. Although New Kent's pitcher has recently been on fire, look at the other pitchers records. Wins, losses, ERAs, strikeouts, walks . . . were these even considered??

Putnam is always amazing. I don't think that she let anything get past her this season. Doesn't perfect defense count anymore? I also recall reading about a lot of timely hits once again this year for her.

Finally, who is the coach of the BRD season champs? Strange that Coach Duman wasn't honored as coach of the year.

I agree with what many have already said. What are we teaching our girls about hard work?

Thumbs up Re: 2010 All-Bay Rivers District softball team

Congratulations to all the players who were selected! This has been an exciting year for BRD Softball. Lots of highly competitive games involving every team in the district. Every player on every team should be proud of themselves and their team. Being a member of the team and playing a game you love teaches many lessons. Learn them well and stick them in the back of your mind so you remember them later in life. Hard work, teamwork, overcoming adversity, individual effort for the benefit of the team are all lessons that will serve you well as you mature and move forward in life. Best wishes and much success to all of you in the future.

Please do not make any more direct references or inferences criticizing teenage athletes on this thread.

Mr. O'Brien,

If you are going to edit such responses you'd be better served to shut down the entire site as since its inception this site as served as nothing more than a bully pulpit for those individuals who will shamelessly self-promote or (worse) denigrate others. There is nothing beneficial that can result from such a medium; human nature will prevail and it's seldom pretty. One need not look any further for such proof than the latest diatrabes posted. The few who are heated enough to respond to this topic obviously feel they have a substantial axe to grind and are using this particular conduit for their pleas against "injustice". Whether said injustice lies solely within their own minds or is due to the People in Authority (coaches) who don't quite view their Precious Princesses the same way is up to the reader to debate and endlessly, emotionally, they shall. Make sure your delete button is functioning properly Mr. O'Brien.

Mr. Obrien I enjoy this site very much, I also disagree with folks and folks disagree with me. However I totally agree with you in defending the young ladies and men that this site is built about. In my short time here I've already made some opinions about some schools here but... you won't hear me blast a coach or say anything negative about a player or even the fans. This place is a great venue to discuss high school sports and if regulation is needed to keep it clean I'm all for it. I have a couple of princess's that are a few years away from high school. I doubt we'll still be in this area by then (military) but no matter where we are when they reach high school I hope there is a medium like this! This site is a great way to connect. It's true you can agree to disagree and move on no matter how stubborn a person is!
