Can someone please explain to me....

Being new to the area and this whole system, I am at a total loss for understanding some of these coaches and their tactics...maybe it is a 'southern' thing.. but please someone help me understand this... My son plays for Woodside and watching Coach Dodson, who is a nice enough guy, but I am at a loss for understanding his game.

Last week, he played his starters for the majority of the game vs Hampton. By the 4th quarter his guys are limping and cramping due to having no "rest" or break by utilizing the back-ups.

Yesterday, Woodside had a 35-0 lead over Maury at the half, for the next two quarters he continues to use his starters.

What I am concerned about is that pretty much he is tearing down the starters to the point that they are gonna get hurt. I would be ****** if my kid got hurt when the team has a sustained lead just because he doesn't want to use the back ups. These guys have colleges to go to and play, why leave them suseptible to injury for no reason?

I have noticed this with a few other teams we have watched as well....is this the standard around here?

I am going ACROSS District here. My son plays for a BRD Team.

In answering your question. Its not an EPIDEMIC thing here. Coaches run THEIR program the way that best suits THEIR program. PHOEBUS last week beat Gloucester I think 42 or 45 to 0. Coach Stan probably had his reserves in by midway thru the 3rd qtr. I dont know I wasnt there. If his starters wouldve played on unfettered the score wouldve been 50 or 60.

Its totally up to Coach Dodson and his Staff to put in guys as they see fit. The only way your son is going to get time on the field is showing what he has on the practice field. And USUALLY 35-0 is CLOSE-CLOSE marging of error score wise. 40+ points is usually the threshhold point when coaches start CARTE BLANCHE subbing.

I see your concern though. With the injury thing. You have to understand however that PLAYOFFS are on every coaches mind right now. Woodside being a D6, they are going to have at 2 losses. PHOEBUS and at least 2 more (maybe Hampton and another). Region 1 Football is STRONG.

My son does get play time currently, I just don't need him breaking his leg and getting cramps when there is a perfectly fine back up on the sidelines that is not gonna mess up the lead. Granted if they start to lose the lead by all means put the starters back in.

First and foremost, most if not all coaches' have different philosophies on how to coach the game of football. I honestly can't tell you the reason, but I'm sure that coach has his reasons. I agree with you 100% on your thoughts, but once again I have no clue.

I hope your son does well this year
