Re: How are they looking?

--------------- I agree it's too early to tell. Every team took a hit due to graduation. The key will be who makes the best adjustments. My top 6 (not in any order) Gloucester lost 3 or 4 starters, but they had some pretty good backups sitting on the bench who will step right in. Defensively they will be very solid behind a very good pitching duo in Taylor and sophomore Jenkins. The big question will be the offense. Woodside loosing Andino is definitely huge, but doesn't necessarily mean doom for Woodside as some are predicting. They are returning the majority of their team from last year which produced a fair amount of runs. If the junior pitcher is effective in the circle, Woodside will be in the hunt as always. Kecoughtan is always dangerous. I'm not sure how many they lost, but I don't believe it was many. They will, once again, be solid on both sides of the ball. They have great pitching and a lineup that features speed and power. Add in the quality players from JV and you have the recipe for a complete team. Menchville lost 2 starters, but picked up some very skilled and experienced players from a very solid JV team. Adding those players to an already solid team should make them very competitive against any team. The big question will be their mental toughness when they get behind. Bethel played some solid ball last year and returns their entire team. They should make some noise again this year. Warwick lost some bats and their primary pitcher, but still brings back a core group of girls from last years team. They will be competitive as always. |

Re: How are they looking?
Kecoughtan will be a strong contendor this year in the PD. They have four returning seniors and two strong pitchers. They scrimmaged poquoson and tied 4-4 and could have won but the game was called. They also scrimmaged jamestown and won 11-3.

Re: How are they looking?
if gloucester can average two runs a game, they win the district. Distefano is still only a junior and a third year varsity pitching star. she will make all regional team again this year and likely state honors.
If she has a shaky game, sophomore jenkins can step in as well |

Re: How are they looking?
I agree Dukes17.
But maybe you should if the Dukes score 2 runs in every game instead of average. I'm pretty sure there will be a couple 20+ run games in the Gloucester schedule. AVERAGING 2 runs will not be a problem for any of the top 3. |

Re: How are they looking?
I was very impressed with Kecoughtan yesterday. They hit the ball pretty good. I think they only made one error on the infield and it was a bang bang play. The outfield could use some work though. Bethel had a few bloopers drop infront of some outfielders that shoulda been caught. I said this on another thread but the Freshman pitcher is probably going to in in consideration for POY (dangerous to say after only 1 game but she is that good). This girl can pitch and hit. As an 8th grader at Phoebus she single handedly kept the JV in some games without any help! Now that she's transferred to Kecoughtan and got some help it has made her even more of a threat. She also had A couple of good hits herself with the bat to include a 200+ foot bomb that 1 hopped the fence.
