Re: Supplements???
Protein is perfectly fine and everyone should try it. You need to be a little more careful with creatine but it is not as bad as some make it out to be.

Re: Supplements???
i hear creatine like speeds up the recovery time betwen lifts by making muscles heal faster. but it supposedly does this by adding water to your muscles or something which cant be good.
i also heard that for people with a high metabolism rate that protien will just go threw their body like everything else does. i can eat just about whatever i want and when ever i want. and i do, i eat moe then the linemen do yet can't get over 155 lbs. i mean ive added about 10 lbs since last season on my own but i cant see going out and spening $30 on something if its just goonna go right threw my system. |

Re: Supplements???
A lot depends on what you are trying to accomplish and how often you work out. I spent alot of time this year with my son and his doctors putting together a work out and nutrition program that would actually work. He lifts everyday for 2 to 2 and 1/2 hours and then speed trains 3 times a week at night, With a schedule like this you should be getting about 1 and 1/2 times your weight in both protien and carbs. At 155 you should have about 230 grams of protien a day. Anything under that and your a not intaking enough to allow the muscle to grow. If you can't reach that level with what you eat then you take the supplement. Even with protien you do not what to over do it. Constant excess of protien can lead to dehydration.
Creatine is a naturall to your body and carries the amino acids that feed the muscle. By taking the supplement you add amino acids to the muscle. Creatine however needs to be used very carefully. There have been no major know side effects to creatine however it can cause dehydration and has been linked to kidney stones ( no fun at all). If you wanted to use creatine you really should discuss it with your doctor before trying it. Actually adding water to your muscle is a good thing, if your muscles is exceptionally hard when not contracted you are probably already some what dehydrated. The problem with creatine is it takes the water from were ever it can find it in your body including your kidneys. So if you use creatine it is imperrative that you intake high amounts of water to prevent dehydration. My son has been on his program since the end of last year's football season. He has gain 28 pounds, has increased his bench press by 50 pounds, his squat by 100 pounds and cut .3 off his forty time but he has followed his diet strictly and works out everyday but Sunday. He does take protien supplements a multy vitamine, calcium, zinc and magnesium and drinks only water or a sports drink. He does not take creatine although was cleared to do by his doctor in moderatation. No one thing will do it. It needs to be a complete program to get the desired results. Check with your Doc or coach, either should be able to help you with a program to gain size via training and diet combined. with early morning lifting, classes, practices in other sports, homework it is tough to get everything in but if you really want to get there you can. Just have to dedicate yourself to it. Good Luck ![]() |

Re: Supplements???
When my son was 15 he wanted to take creatine. Since it is considered a food, it is not regulated. I first spoke to local pharmacist, she was totally against anyone under 18 taking it because she said at this point in time, they don't know enough about it to see what it could do to a growing young body. His pediatrician responded with a big NO also. Fill your kid up with healthy foods and let him work out. Good Luck!
