Re: What happens if York/New Kent tie for softball title?
Since New Kent beat Jamestown tonight then I guess the York/New Kent tie is out of the question but what about York and Poquoson? If York loses to Grafton and Poquoson beats Smithfield tomorrow then (according to the article) Poquoson will move into 2nd place and York to third. Right?
BRD Runs Scored/Runs Allowed is surprising!!! Take a look at these numbers and tell me if they surprise you. The source of the numbers is from the "scores, schedule, standings" section of HR Varsity New Kent scored 83 allowed 22 York scored 144 allowed 23 Poquoson scored 82 allowed 12 Grafton scored 102 allowed 40 Last edited by YorkLegend : 05-17-2011 at 09:36 PM. |

Re: What happens if York/New Kent tie for softball title?
I'm not sure what you meant by "out of the question". If York beats Grafton and New Kent beats Warhill, THEY ARE TIED.
To determine #1 seed....Head to Head...they split. Next look at quality wins formula. Basically it's how good are the teams you beat. Add up the numbers of wins for the teams you beat. Higher total gets #1 seed. If that does not settle it, three was a preseason draw to determine this. This is for seeding purposes only for district tournament. If there is a tie between York and Poquoson, Poquoson wins out on this because of the regular season sweep versus York. THESE THINGS ARE FOR SEEDING IN THE TOURNAMENT ONLY, NOT THE REGIONAL BERTHS. THOSE ARE DECIDED BY WHICH TEAM LASTS THE LONGEST IN THE DISTRICT TOURNAMENT. |

Re: What happens if York/New Kent tie for softball title?
If New Kent and York are tied for first at the end of the regular season (Wednesday) both are guaranteed regional berths. ...period, end of sentence.
The top two teams get regional berths regardless of what happens in the tournament. The district's third regional berth would then go to Poquoson, unless a team seeded fourth or lower wins the district tournament (which would eliminate Poquoson). If York and Poquoson tie for second (New Kent is going to be at least tied for first because it plays Warhill today) then whichever of the two finishes higher in the district tournament gets a regional berth. ....both would go to the regional unless a team seeded fourth or lower wins the district tournament. |

Re: What happens if York/New Kent tie for softball title?
I wasn't too surprised by the numbers. York has some dangerous bats....
Little bit of analysis using the HR Varsity reported scores: York scored 62% of these runs against the bottom 3 teams and 8% against the top 3 teams New Kent scored 48% against the bottom and 18% against the top 3 Don't know what to read into that if anything, but, with all the stat padding over in the PD, one has to wonder ![]() BRD Runs Scored/Runs Allowed is surprising!!! Thanks for the accurate info on the seedings. Jim Heaths artical is incorrect in say the winner of the York/Poquson game Tuesday is garenteed a spot in the regional tournament.
