Mid-Season All District
What players do you think are worthy of All-District nominations now that we're a little over half way through the regular season? To stir up some more conversations on this relatively dead board this season, I figured I may take a crack at it. Here we go...
QB- Alex Johnston (York) RB- Storm Parker (New Kent) RB- Jake Norman (York) RB- Will Capers (Lafayette) WR- Thomas Smith (Lafayette) WR- Rodney Smith (Jamestown) TE- Dylan Stallings (Grafton) OL- Peter Park (Grafton) OL- Hayden Crockett (York) OL- Teddy West (Warhill) OL- Nate Rhea (Poquoson) OL- Dustin Edwards (Poquoson) DL- Dylan Stallings (Grafton) DL- Cody Hendrickson (York) DL- Brannon Waters (Lafayette) DL- Nick Cawthon (Bruton) LB- Rodney Taylor (Lafayette) LB- De'Arius Olvis (Bruton) LB- Dylan Hill (Poquoson) LB- Joe Nelson (Tabb)/Robbie Hiser (Grafton) DB- Devonte Dedmon (Warhill) DB- Anthony Honey (York) DB- Thomas Smith (Lafayette) DB- Marcus Spearman (Grafton) OPOY: I believe Thomas Smith is the best all around and most exciting player in the district, but since York's entire offense starts with Alex Johnston, he is undoubtedly the Offensive Player of the Year. He is an excellent passer, possesses the ability to run and escape pressure, and is a very smart QB. He is the single most important player to his team, except maybe other than Storm Parker of New Kent. DPOY: No question here, Anthony Honey has been the most impressive defensive player to date. Not only can he defend the pass, when he intercepts passes there's a good chance he's returning it for the touchdown. Also is very good at coming up and stopping the run. In addition to all this he is a very good returner as well. *Junio from Tabb is a very good runner and has the stats, but I believe since his team is struggling he will not get the First Team nod. *Rodney Taylor has been an excellent two way standout thus far, and would be 2nd in the DPOY voting in my eyes so far. *York and Lafayette don't have very many picks for being the top two teams, but they're obviously the best two complete teams so these picks shouldn't mean much to their players not mentioned. Re: Mid-Season All District
Nice post. Not sure of your logic on Junio when you have Storm Parker picked. Junio has been very consistent and was a huge player in the Poquoson win.
RBs should be Junio, Parker and Norman. I might change that after tonights game vs. Lafayette. Bartells has done a good job at RB also. Stallings has been relatively quiet lately, not sure what his stats are at TE, but not sure who else would be picked in that spot, either. I would have Nelson and Hiser picked over Olvis. Did not see much out of Olvis, at LB, in the Bruton Tabb game, excpet for his int return for a TD against Tabbs 2nd team with a minute to go. Not sure why he was still in the game? This is hard when you only get to see one or two games of most of the teams. |

Re: Mid-Season All District
Not a lot to quibble with here. Good stuff.
No need to talk about who I'd move off, but if I named a team at this point York LB Jimmy Evans would be on the defense. Jamestown's Rodney Smith at DB, too. Junio has to be a first-team guy with those numbers, but running back is just going to be a bear to pick so there ain't a lot of wrong selections there. The board is indeed quieter, but I think much has to do with Poquoson, Grafton and Tabb having quieter seasons. Those seem to have been the lightning rods in the past. A little movement by the Islanders and Clippers down the stretch and things get going a little. |

Re: Mid-Season All District
Marty, do you track stats from teams such as tackles and sacks? If so can you post that? That may be something to look at when commenting on all district selections on defense. Would like to see it by position as well like D line, Linebackers and such.

Re: Mid-Season All District
Impossible to get tackle stats for all the teams, or, this time of year, the majority. And with many teams, you're only going to be able to get numbers for the top guys and only then at all-district time.
York, Tabb and Poquoson all keep tackle stats on a weekly basis. ...and I know Wakelyn is at 84 and Evans 76 at this point for York. Some of the other teams keep tackles, too, be it on paper or looking at the film, but don't always total them on a weekly basis. That stuff is a lot easier to get come all-district time, because everyone gets that together for nominations of the guys they think can make the All-Bay Rivers team. But a full position by position list in the BRD ain't never gonna happen. Just getting the offensive stats is a huge, time-consuming task. Some of it done because we have a staff guy or stringer at most games, and much of it done with multiple phone calls during the week. |
