PD Basketball Venues

Rumor has it that the PD is switching its venues so that the JV Girls play with the Varsity Girls and the JV Boys play with the Varsity Boys and the reason this is being done is because the official's association Ray Smith and Lee Martin handed the new contract to doesn't have enough officials so the same 3 officials will work the doubleheaders at each respective site.

Is that true Daily Press staff?

Re: PD Basketball Venues

that doesn't make sense if they don't have enough offical's then why switch sites when it will still be the same amount of games...

regardless of who plays as a former offical of the board what you say doesn't make sense at all whether it's a girls game boys game dog or cat game a game is a game if you do the math each school has 4 games a night.. right... 2 JV and 2 varsity that's 4 regardless of the order so how switching sites will make much of difference .....? when we all know that the JV is played at the opposite site anyway i like the idea b/c the bay rivers do it in that order though

Q

I assume he meant Quality officials..... meaning Varsity would get the "better" officials and jv would get "training status" officials?

it doesn't work that way in the offical world either you pass the VHSL test and become a Varsity offical or you don't and only do JV games there is no training status guys but if your doing a double header than your the real deal so i still have no clue as to what he is talking about i just know before we repeat rumors some times we need to say it out loud first to see if what your repeating makes any sense also Pennisula board 125 still have that contract so i have no clue as to what new contract he is talking about....?????

Re: PD Basketball Venues

I thought I had posted here that it isn't true. Boys and girls JV play at one site, girls and boys varsity at the other site.

That was in the girls thread Lynn. I started this thread first and no one responded so I had posed the same question in the Girls' Prediction thread and you answered it.

Thanks again.

The rumor did have a basis. I confirmed this with a coach of one of the PD schools. One of the PD AD's floated the idea and it ended up being shot down.

PB125 does not have the contract. Ray Smith wanted TBOA to receive the contract and they were awarded the contract. Lee Martin was quoted in the Daily Press as stating the decision was made to "to force" all the HS officials into one association.

And if DHs have to be worked by the same set of officials then it's an easier sell to have 3 officials working a JV contest prior to working the Varsity contest. Varsity coaches wouldn't be too happy having officials work back-to-back Varsity contests.
