Several local players earn junior tennis titles

Maxim Paskalutsa completed a sweep of the boys 14- and 12-and-under divisions in the Virginia Beach Tennis Patrons Association junior satellite tournament on clay at Hampton Tennis Center.

He beat Peter Brodzik of Richmond 6-1, 6-0 Sunday to win the Level 5 event.

Heritage High teammates Tonique Merrell and Creighton Jones won the boys 18- and 16-and-under events, respectively.

Merrell defeat Joshua Lee of Chesapeake for the second time in as many Sundays, 6-2, 6-1, in a rematch of the James River Country Club Junior Open final. Jones defeated Paul Bodensick of Grafton High 6-2, 6-4.

In the girls 16s, Jamestown High's Kelly Little won the crown by winning 6-0, 6-4 against Natalie Macdisi of Virginia Beach, the 14s champ.

STONEHENGE JUNIOR CLASSIC

Elliot Mee of Williamsburg and Graham Wilson of Newport News won the boys 16s and 14s, respectively, at the Richmond-area Stonehenge Junior Classic in Midlothian.

Mee won four matches in the hard-court event, including a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory over top-seeded Zachary Carl of Richmond in a quarterfinal. Mee topped No. 3 Garrett Kellner of Midlothian 6-2, 6-0 in the final.

Top-seeded Wilson, coming off last week's James River title, beat three opponents. By far his closest match was the final, in which he beat No. 2 Daniel Sun of Charlottesville 6-4, 7-5.

NEWPORT NEWS SINGLES

Sammie Lisenbee (4.5 level), David Randolph (4.0) and Grafton High's Jack Imbery (3.5) won the rated championships in the Newport News Singles at Huntington Park.
