Menchville beats Hampton

Great game for Menchville. The Monarchs stayed tough and pulled out the one point win! Things are heating up nearing the District Tournament. Next week should be a real nail biter for several teams! Go Menchville!!

Re: Menchville beats Hampton

what a good game! the menchville kids and hampton really battled it out tonight. I like that menchville starting five, boy! do they play together well. Tonight i found out who that guy was who was coaching at phoebus. One of the parents told me that his name is coach shields and the parent said he was their aau coach. The guy(I call him coach!) was in rare form tonight. I do not want to take anything away from the players, because they played their heart out, but once again this guy was up coaching. When the menchville team got down and it look like they were going to let it go, that guy stood up and starting doing his phoebus thing. I was not beside him tonight, I just watched him and those guys respond to him. Hey ! coach shields, you need to be coaching on the bench. Even the parent I was talking too sad he's a good coach and he loves those boys. I love the way menchville guys play together and hampton is a good team, I would have loved to see it go in overtime, this game was worth the admission. The kid CAT played his game and the kid franklin made him earn everything, but i was just impressd how those 5 guys play together!! Hey! the menchville coaches can hand the team over to him, because they react to everything he says and man do they play hard. My hats off to the menchville players, coach shields and the fans!!! the gym was crazy with support. What a game and i would have loved to see more. To the parent next to me, she seems to like him and I thank for the info on the guy, but he defintely needs to be coaching(He's good!) I guess there are good aau coaches also, because this guy seems to know what he's doing and saying. What's funny is I found myself watching him sometimes to see what he was going to do or say, i was just too far away from him. The menchville guys, I enjoyed the way you played last night and my hats off to coach shields for helping these young men. I guess we know who's doing the coaching at menchville. I know one thing also, this team can go far!!!

"I guess we know who is doing the coaching at Menchville"?

Coach K is doing the coaching at Menchville. The same guy whose teams I played against in the 80's. He is coaching. I don't remember Coach Shields yelling anything at Denbigh games 20+ years ago. He may have added some things, but don't act like Coach K was just sitting there. He is still the best coach in the Peninsula District.

Re: Menchville beats Hampton

I agree with Rice 100%. Coach K is the coach that works & trains with these players day in and out, Coach K is the coach who reviews the game w/ the players at half time in the locker room, Coach K is the one in the huddle with the playboard on the side court and Coach K is a coach that has over 400 wins.! You don't amass a record like that unless you are a great coach, an admired coach by his players and fans, and a gentleman that lets his record speak for itself.

Re: Menchville beats Hampton

Hey! don't get upset with me, I am only telling what i saw from the guy and what I heard from a parent. He may have 400 wins and he may have been doing some good coaching, but I saw something different and whether you two want to gove him the credit that is ok with me, everyone does not share the same opinion, but it's alright and I'm not here to go back and forth with you. i know one thing the parent beside me thought different. As a matter of fact, that coach shields guy trained them this year and i did my background cjheck on that! Coach k may have been all you said, but he's not responsible for these guys!! No way, No HOW! My hats off to the menchville players, they have done a great job of fighting in games, but I guess according to yall, coack k did that too. So let me ask you this since noth of you are educated on this, why does these kids do what the guy coach shields say, because they defintely listen to him, he's no regualr fan!! i can see that and yo ucan say what you want about that. To the menchville guys, i love watching menchville guys, because they play hard for one another. Good game and hats off to both teams, I think a round 3 would be good.

Re: Menchville beats Hampton

I suppose your "coach in the stands" will try to take credit for last years' record too. Your coach may have worked with them, but to say he "trained them"? How about giving these young men the kudos for their play. After all they are the ones taking the shots and making the plays and I doubt they could hear every word coach shields was shouting. We disagree on who is "the Coach" here, but we can agree that we both are cheering for these fine young Menchville men.

Re: Menchville beats Hampton

I ask how can one say Coach K is better than Coach Brower? How can one say Coach Brower is better than Coach K? I think your opinion is a bias one and that's ok. Keeping a team fundamentally sound and getting the best out of their respective role players, I think Coach Brower is one of the best! Is he better than K? Getting kids to play hard for him, I think Coach K is one of the best? Does that make him better than Coach Brower? It is ok to have your bias opinion, but make it factual and make everyone say, "well he has a point there." You know the sad thing is, one of these good teams from the PDwill get bumped off and not be able to make it to the regionals. As of today, Bethel would have to play Phoebus 4 vs 5. I just hate to see one of them go down after the great season and a great bunch of kids. That's just the way the ball bounces. I think evryone should make the tournament and give the top two teams a bye for the first round. That way you don't have that 4 vs 5 match up.
