Re: Vhsl
I've read it already. That's why I'm so pessimistic.

Re: Vhsl
i agree a team like Woodside as a 6 would have a hard time getting the power point that Oscar Smith and the Beach school would get if they lose to a couple of D 4 teams.

Re: Vhsl
Losing isn't the problem. If you lose to anybody you don't have much room to gripe. The problem is that you get less points for beating a 4A than you would for a 6A. Playoff seedings are often very close. A four point difference could make the difference between making or missing the playoffs. It's bad enough if they stay with the regional format. If they go to a sectional playoff format, as they do in 1A, a four point difference could mean a trip to Fredericksburg.

Re: Vhsl
I'm not promising I'll get to this any time soon, but I have a spreadsheet that produces the VHSL ratings for the Eastern Region. If I get time, I may plug in the values for the reorganization and see how much they're different.

Re: Vhsl
Here's another interesting example because, remember, under the new system the power points system will be for all sports, not just football. Jamestown's soccer team just beat nationally ranked Cox. It's a great win and congratulations to Jamestown. Will they be able to play that game in the future? Will an ambitious 6A team be able to risk power points by playing a 4A?

Re: Vhsl
The VHSL just released a half-dozen various documents geared toward the reclassification. We're still sifting through what's there.
The link is here What I see right away: The football ratings will attempt to address inequities in having D6/D4/D4 schools in the same regular-season districts by awarding bonus points for playing lower division schools in your district. Districts can have district tournament in, I'm guessing, everything but football - like now. There is a sample set of football playoff pairings based on last year's power ratings. Once you get past Phoebus, Norcom and Lake Taylor in Class 4, there is nothing standing in the way of one those three cruising to the state championship. Appears the plan is to have 32 teams in the playoffs in each of the 6 classes statewide. Districts can have tournament in sports other than football, but they will have no effect on tournament seedings after that. The state will be divided into a bunch of conferences on a somewhat geographic basis that will let every school into the playoffs. Example: One of the conferences in Class 5 is Gloucester, Hampton, Menchville, Warwick, Great Bridge, Hickory and Indian River. A Class 4 conference is Denbigh, Heritage, Phoebus, King's Fork, Lakeland and Nansemond River.
