Tabb 10 Poquoson 4

In a key BRD baseball matchup, the Tabb Tigers showed why they are considered one of the district's frontrunners. Against a tough Poquoson squad and down 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning, the Tigers found their bats and scored 6 runs. That offensive boost settled Cody Brown ( now 2-0), Tabb's starting pitcher, who completed a dominating complete game against one of the BRD's best hitting teams. Brown gave up a handful of hits, especially in the second when the Islanders scored 2 earned and one unearned run, but cruised after that one inning.

In the bottom of the second, starting with a Davey Everhardt HBP, a Gerald Zingraf single, a couple of base hit bunts, and the Tigers were on there way to 6 runs.

In the third (I think) Poquoson fought back with a run, but a HR by Gerald Zingraf seemed to let the air out of the Islanders. Cody Brown, seemed to be pitching downhill for the rest of the game scattering only a couple more Poquoson hits, while striking out several batters.

Several of the Tigers had multiple hits, while Kendall Charles led the Poquoson attack with two big hits. Adam Crockett started pitching for Poquoson, but fell victim to the Tiger hitting spree in the second.

Things don't get easier for Tabb as they travel to Grafton for another tough matchup against the Clippers on Tuesday.

Re: Tabb 10 Poquoson 4

Tabb finally got their bats rolling tonight against Poquoson. With their defense and offense combined, they are going to be a very tough team to stop down the road. Poquoson had the early lead of 3 to nothing, but Tabb battled back to win 10-4. Great game to watch

Re: Tabb 10 Poquoson 4

Tabb played hard and did what they had to to win the game. Poquoson was overmatched in some areas but as I was watching the game I was thinking"what if we had thoses two boys from Denbigh ?" ( Roth and McDougall ),as I was thinking it, other people were saying it. The Tabb pitcher, Brown, was spotting the ball well and kept Poquoson off balance most of the game, although Poquoson got six or seven hits, it was spotty hitting. We can't expect Crockett to go out every game and throw a 2 or 3 hitter, we need to rise to the occasion and give run support in games of this magnitude. We need to learn from this and put it behind us.

Re: Tabb 10 Poquoson 4

I agree that the game seemed closer than the final score. Tabb did have a couple of chances to extend their lead, but missed on those.

It seemed that when Poquoson needed to get something going, Tabb's pitcher Cody Brown was becoming more comfortable on the mound, and didn't allow the Islanders to get rolling. Even when Kendall Charles took a change up deep to Left Center for a leadoff double, Brown was able to get a couple of easy ground outs and a strikeout to keep Charles from scoring.

Tabb definitely is fundamentally sound. It hard to find to find a weakness - pitching, hitting, defense, experience. But with that said, there are also quite a few talented teams in the BRD that can beat Tabb if the Tigers don't play well.

In my opinion, Poquoson demonstrated that they are a top tier team and will be capable of winning every game they play. The pitchers who came in for relief did well and never let the game get out of hand. It is clear that Tabb will have to continue to improve to beat Poquoson he next time they meet.

Grafton is a good team but I think Tabb may have that game hands down. Tabb is on 3 win high now. Look out Clippers!

Re: Tabb 10 Poquoson 4

One thing they did not mention in the newspaper article or box score was Gerald Zingraf's 3 hit game, including a Home run(a bomb that might have reached 390 or so). Dave Everhart also had a big hit to the fence, shortstop Adam McConnell had a couple RBI on 2 hits, second baseman Deyerle had a hat-trick at the plate. Chad Guy had a nice shot to left that brought in a couple. Poquoson was led by Kendall Charles and Adam Crockett, Charles had a double to left. Crockett also had a two bagger. Look for Tabb to dominate on Tuesday against Grafton. They can hit any fastball so GHS better have somebody with variety.

Junior Davey Everhardt hit that ball that sailed a mile and landed at the bottom of the left field fence. It was good to see Davey hit that hard, as he has been working through a hurt knee so far this season.

Senior CF Gerald Zingraf was able to hit a HR and lay down a base hit bunt in back to back at bats...impressive.
