PREVIEW - Isle of Wight Academy

2006: 10-2, 5-1 and first in VCC, VISFA Division 3 champion.
COACH: Dale Chapman, 15th season (86-66).
SCHOOL COLORS: Red and white.
SCHOOL PHONE: 357-3866.
WEB SITE: iwachargers.homestead.com
HOME STADIUM: Hooper Field.
LAST YEAR IN PLAYOFFS: 2006.
Key game: Sept. 28 at Fuqua School. Isle of Wight defeated Virginia Commonwealth Conference rival Fuqua 14-7 in the Division 3 state championship game last season after narrowly winning a regular season meeting 12-7.
OUTLOOK: Expect another outstanding season from this small school power. The two-time defending state independent Division 3 champions lost just three players who started on both sides of the ball. Chapman will be replacing them with lesser-experienced players. “Our team strength is the experience of our seniors,” Chapman said. “Most have been starters for three years.” Good size and speed are plusses. Among the top returners among the seniors are quarterback/defensive back Rusty Brake, running back/defensive back J.D. Honeycutt, wideout/defensive back Kevin King and fullback/linebacker Lance Moore. Seniors are also all over the Chargers’ line in 240-pound offensive and defensive tackle Robert Hart, 180-pound center and defensive end Brian Edwards, 235-pound guard and linebacker Styles Major and 300-pound offensive and defensive tackle Hayden Stiltner. Others to watch are senior running back/linebacker Kenneth Corbett, and a pair of sophomores in Brent Wills at guard/linebacker and Cody Bradshaw at tight end/linebacker. IWA has been in the state championship game six times in the past 11 seasons.
