PREVIEW - Hampton Christian

2006: 2-7.
COACH: Terry Laufer, second season (2-7).
SCHOOL COLORS: Blue and white.
SCHOOL PHONE: 838-7427.
WEB SITE: www.hamptonchristianschools.com
HOME STADIUM: Hampton Christian field.
LAST YEAR IN PLAYOFFS: Have not gone, started 11-man football last season.
Key game: Oct. 5 against Norfolk Christian. A rivalry has developed in the two years both teams have existed.
OUTLOOK: This is the second full season of 11-man football. Eleven starters return, breaking down into eight on each side of the ball. Quarterback Craig Hardy, a junior, returns to lead the offense. Fullback Brent Ausink and running back Keenan Terry are his main targets. Linebackers Ausink and Blake Johnson are the leading tacklers returning. Defensive backs Terry and Julian Bowser are also keys. Senior Thomas Shipman, at end, expects to anchor the interior defensive line along with A.J. Dickens and nose tackle Alex Allen. Adam Bierbauer is back at kicker and punter. Ike Williamson, Alex Pattison and K.C. Judkins are returning starters on both lines. New players to watch are Allen on both lines, sophomore Sam Barber on both lines, senior Justin woods at wideout and defensive back and sophomore Randall Hammonds at defensive back and quarterback. A meeting with state power Isle of Wight Academy is offset by first-year programs Carlisle and Portsmouth Christian. Coach Laufer feels more speed and athleticism, as well as added size and quickness on both lines, will help his young team improve its record.
