Another great hard fought game between two of the best in the PD. Such an entertaining game....these young men played 6 innings within an hour. I couldn't believe how fast these two teams rolled through this game. Ethan Carter looked great in spots, Sizemore pitched extremely well. It was that typical DHS/MHS chess match.

It was a very good game for the fans and players to be a part of. However I have three observations to think about. The first is the inconsistency of the umpire behind the plate. I was right behind home plate and if I were a pitcher or hitter I don't think I could have found the strike zone. This was especially true in the 7th inning. The zone seemed to change even more and this , to me, had an out come on the game. I wasn't for either team, they both played good sound baseball, but its hard to watch inconsistent umpiring. The second was the Denbigh pitcher. I know he is young and needs to mature but his antics and his demenor on the mound, on occasion, was something I have never seen from an Ingram pitcher. I think he needs to realize that there are 8 other guys behind him that is just as important as he is. The third is, no matter if one team is 0-16 and the other is 16-0 that the two Denbigh/Menchville baseball games in the season will always be a "WAR" that is well coached and played hard by both teams. We can be sure when they meet again , at Menchville, it will be every bit as good as this game was.

In response to harry cary's comments about the Denbigh pitcher, I agree in some respect, but the kid is young and just has the desire and determination to win at the highest level. As a PD baseball fan, it seems that everything is magnified when it comes to a Denbigh player. As I recall, nothing was ever said about Robbie Watkins and the way he acted on the mound when things didn't go his way. lets remember, these are kids and they are going to make mistakes and there is no need to slander them in these news columns. The game was a hard fought game and I was impressed with both pitchers and the way they fought and worked there way out of jams.

It wasn't meant to slander anyone, it was an observation. In reference to Robbie Watkins, I'm not sure where or what you were watching but there was always something said about him, in reference to his demenor on the mound as well as the field. His poor sportsmanship in the PD, Regionals and even the State Tournamnet was an embarrassment to his team. I'm not suggesting that the Denbigh pitcher went that far but I've never seen a Ingram pitcher have that demenor or antics before, no matter how young or competative they were. I am sure that it will be addressed and he, the pitcher, will mature as a ball player because if he doesn't and gets a reputation, he will have a tough road ahead.

Another " nugget " about Robbie Watkins, who you named in your post, was the State Legion Tournamnet. If you were not there I'm sorry you missed him JUST WALK OFF THE MOUND after getting " hammered " in just a few innings and then proceeded to go "ballistic" in the dugout after he was told he was going to play a position on the field. This behavior was only a part of the "show" that was put on by certain members of the Post 25 team . But all of this, hopefully, is in the past and from what I saw yesterday both high school teams displayed themselves in a positive manner, both in winning and losing. It was a fun game to watch, the players should be proud to be a part of a team that projects themselves in a positive way.

Ethan said after the game how beating Menchville got the monkey off their backs. I think it was an emotional game between two rivals. He had 11 strikeouts--not to bad for a sophomore.

I was at the Legion District finals game last summer. Ethan was throwing great - 25 got a little rally going, then Robbie gets picked off at first and HOLY ****, the fireworks began, throwing helmets, coaches yelling, players yelling, parents yelling - umps made two trips to the dugout to try to squelch things but it only got worse.....Ethan tried to maintain his composure but when play resumed 25 starting with the nasty poor sports cat calls from the dugout. It was an embarrassment. I actually felt bad for Forbes - because THE PARENTS were just as loud and as obnoxious as the kids. Totally uncalled for. Big E took the loss that night - I'll guarantee you that he WANTED to redeem himself in the worst kind of way. Wouldn't you? So he gets a bit excited a couple of times. What I saw was him getting pumped over his defense MAKING good plays - like Wat getting big air to steal a potential Texas league blooper from dropping in for a base hit. I was pumped for him. He had the rest of the summer and FALL & WINTER to stew about it, he earned the right to thump his chest a little bit. I didn't see anything that I would classify as over the top. BUT Coach Ingram doesn't want any grandstanding - so I'm sure that there was a little conversation this morning. LOL!
Menchville is a very good team, I like the chemistry on this years team a lot more than last years. Kids were much more respectable this go around.
The thing that I love about the DHS/MHS baseball match ups is you can throw away the records, it doesn't matter who's having the better season - it's going to be a dog fight. I'm not sure if there's a rivalry in the state that's any bigger.
