Interest increases for Truckers goalie
According to Churchland boys soccer coach Larry Wiley, senior goalkeeper -- and Truckers place-kicker on the football team -- Jay Coble has received letters of correspondence from several schools interested in his soccer talents.
Wiley said during halftime of Friday's Lake Taylor-Churchland football game that Coble had been in touch numerous times with Old Dominion, and received letters from UCLA, James Madison, William and Mary, UC-Santa Barbara and Duke.
"ODU's the only school to contact me about film of Jay," Wiley said. "But several have sent him letters and told him they were interested."
Coble scored the game-winning goal for the Truckers in the penalty-kick round against Menchville in May's Group AAA Eastern Region quarterfinals. Last month, he expressed interest in going to Duke, Notre Dame or Stanford, but that none of the schools had contacted him.
Coble maintains he's open to football offers as well as soccer ones, though he admits soccer is his first sport.
The 6-foot-1, 178-pound senior had a 38-yard field goal and two punts of 41 yards in Friday's 31-10 loss to Lake Taylor.
