Nansemond River shooting guard Andre Jones, last season's Southeastern District player of the year, has committed to play at South Carolina's Winthrop University beginning in 2008.
Jones, who picked the Eagles over Virginia Tech, Virginia and East Carolina among other suitors, helped the Warriors to last season's regional title game and a state playoff berth. The 6 foot 2 junior earned All Tidewater and All Eastern Region honors and averaged 20.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 3.4 steals and 2.5 blocked shots per game.
Jones joins teammate and fellow Nansemond River senior Nick Wright in committing to a college program. Wright, a 6-8 forward, has said he'll play for Old Dominion.
