Bethel High’s Oliver commits to Clemson.

New Bethel player commits to Clemson

By Jason Jordan | jjordan@dailypress.com

Bethel High forward Mbai Goto Oliver ended his short recruitment recently and committed to Clemson.

"We wanted to get things out of the way early," Bethel coach Craig Brehon said. "He was very impressed with academic support that they have in place for foreign students. And he liked their style of play."

Oliver, a 6-foot-7 swingman, is one of three senior transfers at Bethel this season.

Ali Abdou Djim, a 6-8 power forward, and David Key Keyba, a 6-9 center, are the other two. All are from Chad, which is located in Central Africa.

The trio relocated to Ohio in May and ended up at Bethel in June.

Brehon began preseason workouts at Bethel in August, where college coaches came in to see Oliver play. After unofficial visits to George Washington and Old Dominion, Oliver decided on Clemson, where he also took an unofficial visit.

"(Clemson head) Coach (Oliver) Purnell came in twice and he sent his assistant a few times to see Oliver," Brehon said. "They were sold on him and they feel like he’s a guy that can help them right away."

Djim and Keyba will also be making their colleges choices over the next few weeks according the Brehon.

OK I hate to be the negitive one that starts this but I guess they have all their papers in order and can legally play at Bethel right? I know we have all read about players coming from Africa who might not have it all together. I would hate to see Bethel have to forfeit games later because these players were nto cleared to play.

Bethel has a good Administrative team in place and I'm sure they have crossed every I and dotted every T, in order for them to play. These are kids, just like our kids. Instead of starting the negative posts why not asks something positive or just be postive. You start off worrying about paperwork....

Congrats OV!!!! I'm proud of you man!!!!! I know you will do well!!!

I truely understand that they are kids but U have to understand that adults sometimes do things that are not in the best interest of the kids they are in charge of. Lets say they are found not to be eligible to play after the season and all the team's victories are nullified, then how will you feel? I just want to make sure everything is on the up and up before the season start so that all the kids can have a good year and move on the bigger and better things.

LOL. You must not know coach Brehon. He had those papers ready weeks or maybe even months ago.

Lets just say this, I know personally that all is well and everything done for these kids was truly in their best interest. So, don't you worry your pretty little head. OK? ........K! Now just congratulate the kid!
