BABC Overpowers Team Melo for a 79-68 Win

By Tiffani Bowe

HAMPTON− Team Melo put up a last minute fight, but failed to win against BABC after a 30-point deficit in the 16-and-under category of the Boo Williams Invitational Sunday morning.

The Boston Amateur Basketball Club, who was both taller and more muscular than Team Melo, easily beat Team Melo to the basket with its powerful defense. The players hustled to their side of the court, threw the ball, and made a lay-up or dunked on Team Melo on numerous occasions during the tournament to widen their lead.

Team Melo was down by 11 at the end of the first half, and the gap widened to 31-60 during the second half until Team Melo finally found its rhythm and fought back to bring the gap back down to 11. Team Melo’s Tavon Austin steals and assists helped give Team Melo a push at the end. Phil Pressey (whose father, Paul Pressey, was drafted into the NBA by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1982) and Jamal Combs led BABC with 24 points and 20 points, respectively, while Micah Fraction led Team Melo with 19 points.

Good comment! Thanks a lot. If you don't remember Paul Pressey, he grew up in Richmond and played for the University of Tulsa before a long, distinguished NBA career as a player and assistant coach.

It's a shame they did not have a bronze and silver tournament for the 16U teams.

Flying to Va for three days and two nights was expensive, especially not to play Sunday.

Just a thought. Great tournament otherwise.
