Football: Surry 18, Sussex Central 0
Sophomore Montel White threw for 229 yards, completing 7 of 12 passes, to lead Surry County to a 18-0 victory over visiting Sussex Central and the Tri-Rivers District championship.
The Cougars clinched the No. 1 seed in the Region A Division 1 playoffs, which start next Friday. Surry’s Vincent Batten caught three passes for 128 yards, and Demitric Brown had two catches for 87 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown. Teammate Geoffrey Warren had 19 carries for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Sussex Central will miss the playoffs for the first time since 1997.
