District seasons beginning

Peninsula District soccer opens its district slate Friday with a full schedule of games, while the Bay Rivers kicks in this week.
Coming off spring break, the district schedule for both is mostly packed into the next month.

In the Peninsula District’s best opening day action, Menchville opens with a girls-boys doubleheader at Warwick at 4 and 6 p.m. Friday. Denbigh is at Woodside in 4:30 p.m. games.

The biggest Bay Rivers girls game of the week is York at Tabb at 7 p.m. Friday.

Bay Rivers boys openers to watch are Grafton at Poquoson on Wednesday, Tabb at York on Thursday and the biggest — Jamestown versus Lafayette at Cooley Field on Friday.

Jamestown (3-0) is the heavy favorite to win the district and the Rams (4-1-1) will get a very good early test. Jamestown has beaten Maury, Gloucester and Ocean Lakes by a combined 15-2.

“We are doing a pretty good job offensively, but the big test will be our defensive unit,” said Jamestown coach Charles Sneddon. “Offensively I need to get more guys scoring goals other than Chris Miller and Tyler Clare. Friday will be a good matchup as usual.

“The keys for us are to score early and stay focused by not getting too emotional. Defensively we are going to have to step it up because we are giving our opponents too many chances to score.”

What's with the paper not giving any press to the first peninsula district games? All I've seen in the paper is BRD soccer. How come PD soccer is being slighted....it's been that way for a long time.

BRD is more interesting and has better players and teams; it's what people want to read about.

Re: District seasons beginning

The only fact I know is that out of four teams that KHS faced from the BRD.....they beat three of them. And yes they lost to Grafton, but then Grafton lost to Poquoson. Btw, KHS beat them 3-1. SO what is the fact you are trying to point out?
