Story: Four questions about BRD boys hoops
Four questions on BRD boys hoops By MARTY O'BRIEN mobrien@dailypress.com | 247-4649 1. What are the remaining must-see games? The Tabb-at-Poquoson matchup Feb. 13 could be for first place if the Tigers stumble and the Islanders continue to win. Beyond that, any game involving Poquoson, New Kent or Grafton should be big, because those three are fighting for second place and the district’s second berth (of three) to the Region I tournament. Grafton is at New Kent on Feb. 6. 2. Who are the bubble teams? The eight-team district tournament is all but set. Ninth-place Smithfield is improving every game, but the Packers are 2½ games behind York for the final tournament spot. 3. How does the individual scoring race shape up? Poquoson forward Gene Efird is averaging almost 23 points the past five games — all Islanders victories. But at 20.4 points per game, Efird has a long way to go to catch Lafayette guard Art Crew, who leads the district at 23.8. 4. Who is the best bet to win the regular season? From first to ninth place, anyone can compete with anyone else. That makes Tabb’s two-game lead to start the week all the more formidable. The Tigers have won 11 consecutive games, in large part because the bench has gotten deeper since the start of the season and everyone plays with poise in close games. District tournament The Bay Rivers District boys tournament is scheduled for Feb. 18, 20 and 22. The higher seed is host for the quarterfinals and the final and the highest remaining seed hosts both semifinals. Last edited by R.L. Bynum : 01-28-2008 at 11:29 PM. |
