MIDDLESEX (20-4): Burnett 18, M. Reed 8, Baylor 2, Burse 4, Kimble 6, Brown 6. Totals 15 12-34 44. Mathews*11 7 13 9--40 Middlesex*10 16 5 13--44 3-point goals -- Mathews 1 (Morgan), Middlesex 2 (Brown 2). Fouled out -- Miales, Jarvis, White (Mathews), Collins, K. Reed (Middlesex). Ashae Burnett had 18 points and 10 rebounds to help Middlesex win the Tidewater District tournament Saturday night with a 44-40 victory over Mathews in King William's gym. The top-seeded Chargers (20-4) squandered a 26-18 halftime lead but outscored the second-seeded Blue Devils 13-9 in the final eight minutes for the triumph. Micah Reed had eight points and 10 rebounds for Middlesex. For Mathews, Brianna Miles scored 16 and Sharese Jarvis 11, and both were major factors on the boards as well. The teams will begin play Tuesday in different Region A brackets. Middlesex, the top seed in Division 2, will play at home at 7 p.m. against the winner of Monday's game pitting King William at Washington and Lee in Montross. Mathews, the No. 3 seed in the Division 1 bracket, will play host to No. 6 Colonial Beach. |
