Brown, Forbes best in the state
Hampton’s Tierra Brown leads the state in three hurdles events, Bethel’s Shakia Forbes has the best long jump and Jamestown’s Andrew Mearns is the best at 3,000 meters.
Those are according to www. milestate.com, which follows high school track and field in Virginia. Brown has the best time in the 100-meter hurdles (13.99), the 300 hurdles (44.23) and the 400 hurdles (1:02.60). In Peninsula track history, Brown’s 13.99 is second only to her 13.95 time from last year. Forbes jumped 19-8 last weekend, the second-best performance ever in the area. Mearns’ 8:39.42 time leads all 3,000-meter runners and Jamestown’s 6,400-meter relay team has the state’s best time at 19:39.78.
