PD race tightens
Kecoughtan’s 2-0 overtime victory over Menchville in girls soccer Friday showed how open the Peninsula District race is. The Monarchs, four-time defending district champs, have been weakened by injuries after starting the season with high hopes for repeating.
Denbigh, Gloucester and Menchville are 3-0, while Menchville and Bethel are 2-1. Kecoughtan plays Hampton today before hosting the other district power, Gloucester, on Friday. Warriors coach Jenni Macintosh said she was was impressed with her team’s intensity at Menchville. The Warriors have also been working on passing and teamwork of late, and she saw that carry over at game time. “Everything we’ve been working on in practice they executed in the game,” Macintosh said. “One of the biggest differences Friday was they came out ready to play and play hard for the entire game. “I just want to see them play the same way (against Gloucester) they did Friday against Menchville. It was a great game for us.” -- Jennifer L. Williams

Denbigh girls BEAT Menchville 2 to 1 tonight! Unbelieveable!!! Even in the middle of a thunderstorm they were able to pull through. Menchville put up a fight, but just did not have the drive to win that Denbigh did! Could this mean a possible top three for Denbigh? Fourth place last year... 7th place the year before... Not bad!!!

Re: PD race tightens
a lot of games are going differently from last year. with that, new results, and champions are more likely to come out. but all these games now, are just to qualify to play for the tourny. so, ... basically, its anyones game right now.

Re: PD race tightens
Very true! It is amazing how things can change over just one season. Teams cannot get comfortable because you never know what may be coming up behind you!! It is still amazing though... MHS ran circles around just about everyone last season (with the exception of GHS)...

Re: PD race tightens
yeah thats true, but they also lost some key players due to graduation.
and that happens to everyone, but according to the daily press, gloucester lost their whole defensive line. and they're one of the top three right now. next to denbigh and kecoughtan... and even so, with those teams being the top three, this season isnt a lockdown, as much as it was last year. like i said. anyones game. |

Re: PD race tightens
MHS also lost three to injuries so that also hurt them. They still played a good game though. GHS is usually a pretty abusive team and KHS has kept some good players from last year. DHS has a super young team, but they have talent. I will be curious to see how the game against GHS and KHS goes tomorrow. GHS has not played any really top teams yet so tomorrow should be good. I thought that Warwick would be in the race for the top three, but they tied Woodside. They are also another abusive team to play.
It is an exciting season... ![]() |

Re: PD race tightens
well. first of all. that game was wack. they said we'd get our play time later. and that they were going to postpone the game, while they let the boys start their game. we couldve finished, but they said to postpone it. so idk whats going on with that. you cant determine the teams to beat of the season from one game. warwick will pick it up. this weather isnt helping though.
