Re: Menchville vs Bethel
What in the world has happened to Menchville? There is wayyyyyyyyyy too much talent to be losing this many games. Purple Haze and the rest of the Menchville crew, please shed some light on this. Where does Menchville go from here?

Re: Menchville vs Bethel
Let's see, Without naming folks and offending let's just say great pitching my MHS with oh, only 5 errors in the field, one pickoff with thw MHS potential winning run on first with no outs in the 7th, another baserunning gem by someone trying to stretch a single to a double.
You know, the usual stuff. Bethel played well, stayed close and pounced on the lackadasical monarchs who kill their rallies with impatience at the bat, gross buffoonery in the field, and some incredible affinity for making outs on pickoffs, bad baserunning, and all around uninspired play. They must have started to believe all the Va Preps hype about being #4 in the state---somehow the best fielding outfield, best player in the PD, and the pitching staff reminiscent of the Baltimore Orioles when they had Palmer and folks in the 1970s isn't scaring anyone willing to go out and execute. It is shameful but alas, same old song and dance in the lineup MHS may have mustered 4 hits all day to boot |

Re: Menchville vs Bethel
Nothing can be said that hasn't already been said and deleted. Recall some old posts about the previous two losses and you'll paint the same picture. Same running errors, same fielding errors, same result. CAN Menchville hit, yes, do they have the best pitching staff in the PD, yes. Yet do they lead the PD in errors, unquestionably yes. I would venture that if you checked the scorebook you would find no less than 30 errors, and that's being generous to the benefit of Mville.
There is nothing happening here that cannot be fixed, scratch that, just given an effort to try and fix. Dissect the scorebook and play the numbers game. Baseball is a game of numbers and players' stats speak volumes about how they are playing. At this point in the season, the 10/11 players getting all of the at bats should have at least 30-40 at bats. A fair number to gauge performance at the plate. A batting average of say less than .250 or an on base % of less than.350, should not be swinging a bat after 13 games. After 8 or more errors, change position or sit. It's simple, play the percentages. There are kids on the bench with no meaningful playing time, not even during the 5-6 inning blowouts. What can they do? It's time to start taking some chances, put players in positions they are comfortable playing. Shake up the batting order, change to purple Gatorade instead of orange, wear socks inside out, dust off the old cotton uniforms, anything to catch some lightning in a bottle! |

Re: Menchville vs Bethel
How many times do I have to tell people the rules around here?
Post deleted If you use a forum to demean or insult athletes, coaches or other posters, your posts are subject to deletion and you could be blocked from making future posts. It must be nice to be able to sit back and lob potshots under the cover of anonymity and not be responsible for what you say. On another thread, somebody implored me not to shut things down here. I don't want to shut anything down, but some of you are wearing thin. If you want to be hyper-critical, then log on with your real name and fire away. Lynn Burke |

Quote:
Next practice, live BP, all hit and run/bunt scenarios. Any player pulling the ball and thus hitting in front of the runner is out and runs a lap for each guffaw, a bunt missed, same punishment. Those who execute keep going till they screw it up, and then they get their cardio. It's simple and hopefully not to late to re-learn some basic baseball fundamentals. THAT above all else is what this team lacks. |
