Hats Off To Lynn
Lynn,
Coverage for wrestling this year has been outstanding. I wanted to let you know it is being noticed! From results to features, you are bringing your "A" game. Thanks and keep 'em coming. |

Re: Hats Off To Lynn
Yes, coverage has been great---if you are a Bulls fan, which Lynn seems to be. I agree with Yorkmom in earlier post regarding the success of other teams in the Bay Rivers District. Great job Smithfield and New Kent on your victories last weekend. And New Kent does have 12 people who qualified not 11...great reporting!

Re: Hats Off To Lynn
And coverage for Bay Rivers district is 3 times the amount than for AAA... I enjoy reading about the Bay Rivers kids and know most of them well, but I have had to really struggle to find out what had happened in the AAA PDR week to week.
What is it going to take for us (all of us - AA and AAA) to get the kind of coverage they get on the Southside??? ![]() |

Re: Hats Off To Lynn
I've been following wrestling for over 25 years. My point was specific to Lynn's articles. While our side of the water still lags behind the beach, I want to give credit to writers making it better.
I'm quite sure if he covered the AAA tournaments they would be done well. The complaints have been loud for years about wrestling coverage. While it may not be what everyone wants it to be it still is improving greatly. And yes, I am a Bulls fan but have admiration for ALL wrestlers and respect for competitors at all levels. |

Re: Hats Off To Lynn
I know that we all would like to have more coverage in the paper of our sport.
But I would like to note that the Daily Press probably does more coverage of Wrestling than the Southside does. Not to mention that they have been writing articles about some of the youth wrestling results in the community notes section of the sports pages. Although there is always room for more coverage. I would like to thank Lynn & Ed Richards for the coverage that they have done. Raider Nation Wrestling Club Last edited by ua540ftr : 02-15-2009 at 12:12 PM. Reason: did not add club affiliation |

-Mark Strickland -New Kent beats Poquoson, New Kent was not healthy either so Poquoson can't use that as an excuse. -Poquoson wrestlers are sore loser's and I can go and on...the said thing is I am not even from Poquoson. I just watch wrestling....all teams. I have not seen a post yet that does not have a negative response about Poquoson. Hey,Congrats New Kent and Smithfield this district needs tougher competition. Just don't sit here and say things that are untrue because I can tell you and give you fact that several of the coaches from the top teams have alot to learn when it comes to on the mat professionalism. The reason no one writes about it is because they don't care or have time to write posts that are negative. This sport doesn't need this and this is high school. Parity is great for every sport but until other teams build the tradition of the top teams and stop worrying about just beating Poquoson then things will change. Other district teams train all year to just beat Poquoson and it seems from Poquoson's wrestling schedule they train for national exposure and top competition. I am sure they would have liked to win every district match and the district but the season is not over. Take a look at last year's team, they came back to beat teams that beat them earlier in the year. It is very easy to say another team has a better record or beat them in a dual but you have to just not beat Poquoson to be a top level team. You have to wrestle at the Beast of the East, Ironman, American Division/National Division at the Virigina Dulas, NOVA Classic, Ultimate Challenge, Great Bridge Tournament/Dual meet etc....Worry about your school, wrestlers, fans and coaches, when you start focusing on those things you might start to see more articles on your wrestlers and maybe more 1st place wins. Last thing, I am curious of how many kids train at P.W.A in the off-season because I do believe that was developed for ALL kids not Poquoson wrestlers, the thing about it is a Poquoson person started it and it is held in Poquoson. The Virginia Duals which was also established by a Poquoson person was designed to bring national exposure for ALL schools from high school to college..to let local wrestlers catch the eye of college recruits and to also let wrestlers from the area who are wrestling in college come back to their home state to wrestle in front of family and friends......just worry about your program and not others because that is the main reason we will only see "one year wonder" teams, if you strive to elevate your team to just beat Poquoson which might happen but when the season is over, they will have a win over Poquoson and Poquoson will have a top 3 state finish and several state champs, not to mention several parents with less stress because their Poquoson wrestler recieved a wrestling scholarship.....and respond as you wish but I am not from Poquoson, have a kid in P.W.A and don't have any close friends there, I just try to see the good things that the community does for the sport not just for their kids but for every kid in the district |
