Re: All-Peninsula District Team

I like the picks. This group of 10 girls should have formed an AAU team together this past summer. They could have made some noise at Nationals. Let's look a little closer, it could/should have happened.

Davis was running with a mediocre Red Tide program
Younger was running with her coaches 14u team
Easter was riding the bench with Boos travel squad
Gamble and Hamilton were playing together on Boos 16u B squad

Dickerson and Ellis were running with a Heritage AAU team
Dolivera was with Gamble and Hamilton on the B squad
Smith was running with Boo's 15u elite squad
Not sure who Harrington was playing with

Re: All-Peninsula District Team

Dickerson has been a four-year starter for Heritage and ran the point for the first state championship girls' team in Newport News history. And she's never been on first team?! I wish the coaches would put their personal differences aside and take some other things into consideration.

Being a point guard on a squad with 6 D I players last year does not make you an all District 1st Team selection. Wasn't the first, won't be the last.

I know that. That's why I mentioned the whole four-year starter thing. If you're going to mention the fact that she played on a team with a lot of talent and that doesn't make her a first-teamer, then you also should agree that being a pretty good player on an average team shouldn't make you Player of the Year. But it happens.

I was at the voting, so I know exactly what went down. People refuse to vote for some teams because they have personal differences with the coach. I know being on the All-District team isn't going to get anyone into college, but it is still supposed to be a reward for a player's body of work. It's wrong for coaches to let personal differences affect a player who has nothing to do with it.

You mention that she's a 4-year starter and then later on you say it's "supposed to be a reward for a player's body of work". I maybe making a too big a leap here but it sounds like you're saying she should have made first team because of her work over her 4-year "career". Is that really what the criteria is or are you a person who gets to vote for this honor, and that's the way you as an individual have chosen to cast your votes. This is a sincere question, I really don't know what the criteria is, so I'm seeking knowledge.
